6 INTRODUCTION The Masonry Institute of America believes that the best way to extend and improve the use of masonry is through education and the dissemination of information. Accordingly, the masonry promotion groups of California have joined together uniting their efforts to provide more information to the design professional and builder. This manual, published by the Masonry Institute of America and the International Code Council is intended for use as a ready reference which furnishes the various code requirements for masonry from the California Building Code and the California Residential Code that are to be used in conjunction with the Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS /ACI /ASCE 5-11) and Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS /ACI /ASCE 6-11). This 2013 Masonry Code Provisions for California manual was prepared by the Masonry Institute of America. Every effort has been taken to ensure that all data and information furnished is as accurate as possible. The editors and publishers cannot assume or accept any responsibility or liability, including liability for negligence, for errors or oversights in this data and information, and the use of such information. This book contains information obtained from authentic and highly regarded sources. Reprinted material is quoted with permission, and sources are indicated. A wide variety of references are listed. Reasonable efforts have been made to publish reliable data and information, but the author and the publisher cannot assume responsibility for the validity of all the materials or for the consequences of their use.
