This section contains information regarding the model and specifications for the layout and installation of bike racks. 1.2 REFERENCES A. See also 4E_DIVISION_32_321623_Sidewalks_Pedestrian Paths for information about the paver pad. 1.3 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A. Should be conveniently located with sufficient number and spacing to encourage their use. B. A general guideline is to provide one bike rack per three building occupants. C. Bike racks should be placed near PDI entry doors and adjacent to pedestrian paths in a manner that does not block circulatory routes or snow plow access. D. Bike rack areas should be provided good site lighting and, wherever possible, in view of security cameras. E. Typical spacing is no less than on center; adjust based on site conditions. F. Bike Racks should be installed on either concrete or paver pads. See also 4E_DIVISION_32_321623_Sidewalks_Pedestrian Path for pad details. Pad should be a minimum of 8 ft. deep to enable snow plow access around a bike if it remains attached to the rack. 1. When bike rack paver pads are placed in lawn areas, bike racks need to be installed with a minimum of 20 from edge of rack to edge of pavers, to allow for overhang of bike tires. 4 4.4 Surface Mount In ground mount is the preferred and recommended installation standard, except only when site conditions require a surface mount option. For surface mount: 1. Use only stainless steel bolts and nuts. 2. Apply "Never Seize" to bolt threads. 3. Bolts should be vandal resistant and not less than 4" long. 4. If being installed into a paver area, a concrete footer shall be poured in place (no less than 8"wide x 24" long x 18" deep). END OF SECTION SECTION Bicycle Racks Page 4

This section contains information regarding the model and specifications for the installation of both the recycling and litter receptacles used on campus near dormitories and academic buildings. 1.2 REFERENCES A. 4E_DIVISION 32_321623_Sidewalks_Pedestrian Paths, light traffic for paver pad, if needed 1.3 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A. Trash and recycling receptacles shall be placed throughout campus, specifically near doorways (except near dormitories), seating areas and high use areas. B. Exact number and locations to be determined on a case by case basis with approval by contacts listed above. C. All trash and recycling receptacles are to be placed on paved areas. D. If a paver pad is constructed, it should be in accordance to 4E_DIVISION 32_321623_Sidewalks_Pedestrian Paths, light traffic. E. All receptacles shall be located and placed in a manner that enables easy access to the swing door. F. Six (6) sets of keys to be supplied with each receptacle for units that have locking doors. Footer Size: no less than 18 x 18 x 18 concrete, 4000 psi. 2. Top of footer shall not be higher than bottom of the paver when pavers are to be the finished surface. If finished surface to be other than pavers, footer shall be placed at grade. Footer shall be separate from surrounding surface. 3. Anchor bolt to be ¾ x 12 stainless steel bolt or all thread and nut. Shall be secured with stainless steel Dynabolt Sleeve Anchors or Trubolt Wedge Anchors, or approved equal. 4. Nut securing receptacle shall be stainless steel and tightened down so receptacle will not rock or move. Information in this section pertains to outside benches; for other exterior seating refer to: 4C_DIVISION 12_ Site Seating and Tables B. Two types of benches currently used are: 1.2 REFERENCES 1. Victor Stanley Bench (Recreation Resources) o Used primarily in Central Campus areas and historic areas of campus. 2. Scarborough Bench (Landscape Forms) o Used primarily in South Campus and North Campus areas. A. 4E DIVISION 32_ Sidewalks _ Pedestrian Paths 1.3 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A. Ample lighting should be provided. B. Configuration of seating areas should be diverse to encourage a variety of interaction opportunities. C. Benches should be installed on paver pads or paved surfaces, with concrete footers and anchor bolts. Paver pads should be connected to adjacent paving areas. 13 D. Concrete Footers 1. A concrete footer shall be poured in place under each leg. 2. Dimensions of footer shall be no less than 10 wide x 24 long x 18 deep. 3. Top of footer should not extend beyond bottom of paver. E. Anchor Bolts PART 2 PRODUCTS 1. Shall be of sufficient length to allow for full penetration into the concrete footer. 2. Shall be painted glossy black and shall be the diameter of both holes. 3. Shall be firmly torqued in place to reduce vandalism and theft of bench. 4.
