2 It has been busy time in Eastern Canada with a number of projects recently completed and several more underway ECLRT Eglinton Cross Town Light Rail Transit, Toronto, Ontario The ECLRT project is broken up into two contracts. The first two tunnel drives under the first contract are currently being constructed. The second contract has started construction of the launch shafts and other works, with tunnelling scheduled to commence shortly

3 OLRT Ottawa Light Rail Transit, Ottawa, Ontario The OLRT project includes a 2.5 km tunnel and four underground stations in the downtown core. Construction is well underway; the tunnel is currently being excavated by SEM and Road-header methods and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

4 Hanlan Feedermain Project, Mississauga, Ontario Contracts one and three contain tunnels; tunnelling is well underway. Twinning of the West Trunk, Mississauga, Ontario Twinning of the West Trunk Project was divided into two contracts. Contract one was awarded last year and tunnelling is progressing well. Mid-Halton Outfall and Zone 1 Interconnect Tunnels, Oakville, Ontario The bored tunnel is approximately 6.3km in length and is expected to be primarily in rock. The project is underway. 2400mm Sanitary Sewer from 3rd Line to Lower Base Line Road, Oakville There is 3300m of tunnelling, nearly complete on this project, through Queenston shale, utilized an Atlas Copco Rock TBM and a Komatsu Hard Rock Gripper TBM. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of Bathurst & Teston Rd. Watermain, Richmond Hill The 685 m long Tunnel will be constructed through mixed ground conditions utilizing a refurbished Lovat EPB TBM and will install a 3m ID prefabricated concrete segmental liner. Tunnelling commenced in August 2015.

5 NEAR TERM: Britannia East & Derry Green Regional Servicing - Wastewater Pumping Station, Milton. The project consists of both open face rock tunnelling and microtunnelling. Fairbanks Silverthorn Trunk Storm Sewer system, City of Toronto - Prequalification has closed. Includes 2.2 km of 4m diameter EPB Tunnelling and also contains a section of microtunnelling. Ottawa Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel (CSST), City of Ottawa - Prequalification has closed. The project consists of approximately 6 km of 3m diameter rock tunnelling utilizing a TBM. There are several projects under design, to be let for tender in the future, such as: CP Rail Tunnel from Windsor to Detroit; Ontario Power Generation deep geologic repository tunnels for nuclear waste; Sheppard East LRT; Downtown Relief Line; and Coxwell By-pass east river tunnel. The outlook for Ontario looks promising for the years to come. There continues to be a very active microtunnelling market in Ontario. Many projects are currently being constructed all over the Province.

6 In Quebec: Romaine Hydro-electrical schemes continue with drill and blast work of the final sections of this large project. Montreal is seeing further water main work with TBM tunnelling through limestones and hard rock FUTURE Metro Extension To East Blue Line (Agence Metropolitaine de Transport, AMT) adding five new stations to the line towards the east to reach Anjou Lavigne Retention Pool to manage storm water, 3 tunnels of 2 m diameter to be excavated for a total length of 2.1 km, City of Montreal Melocheville Tunnel Road tunnel maintenance project Ministry of Transport of Quebec Hydro-Canyon Project 800 m long pressure tunnel near Quebec City, 4.8 m wide D-shaped D/B tunnel section, ±10MW

8 Calgary and Edmonton continue to work on the expansion of the capacity of their storm and sanitary systems with small diameter (< 3 m) tunnels. Recent 600 m long microtunnel contract, part of utility relocations required for construction of Calgary s Southwest Ring Road. Edmonton - work continues on the $1.8 Billion low-floor line to Mill Woods from City Centre; includes 400 m long twin tunnel section in the North Saskatchewan River valley section. The three teams competing for the opportunity to submit a bid to design, build, operate, maintain and partially finance the project. Major construction is expected to begin in 2016, with expected completion in The Federal government has recently pledged a contribution of $1.5 Billion for construction of Calgary s Green Line LRT, a $4.5 Billion megaproject which will run from Calgary's northern outskirts, through downtown and to the city s Southeast. The northern portion is currently in the planning stages, with a number of options currently under consideration including tunnelling under the Bow River. The option of tunnelling the entire downtown section (2 km) is also under consideration).

9 Jansen Potash Project (Saskatchewan): BHP Billiton has invested ~$2.6 B in development, including vertical shaft sinking of two 9 m diameter x 1,030 m deep shafts, via ground freezing (700 m) and vertical boring using Herrenknecht Shaft Boring Roadheaders (SBR s). Project continues in Feasibility Study Phase. Tazi Twe Hydroelectric Development (Saskatchewan) 50 MW project includes a 2.9 km long, 10 m x 11 m vertical wall, inverted U shaped drill and blast tunnel. Licensing and reviews of the ~$400M project in final stages; when final approval received construction will begin fall of Various mine sites in Manitoba remain active. Most recently at VMS Ventures Reed Mine, drill and blast work to create portal, decline, and main access ramp to ore body. Production continues at 260 m level. Microtunnelling (Winnipeg, Manitoba) The City is looking at many tens of millions in expenditures for infrastructure upgrades in the coming decades. Use of EPB microtunnelling technology is being explored for upcoming large pipe replacements. Tunnelling for temporary storm water storage as part of the land drainage system upgrades being investigated. Potash in Manitoba (Russell/McCauley) remains in the future at this time.

10 The tunnelling industry remains active in BC with many ongoing and planned projects in the Greater Vancouver area and other regions of the province. Hydroelectricity is leading the way in terms of the number of tunnels currently underway. Approximately 60km north of Pemberton, Innergex Renewable Energy is constructing the Upper Lillooet (~80 MW) and Boulder Creek (~25 MW) hydroelectric facilities.

11 The Upper Lillooet Project includes an approximately 2500m long inverted D tunnel shaped 6m wide and 5.5m high: to date, a total of approximately 420m of tunnel has been excavated in difficult ground. The Boulder Creek Project includes a 2900m long inverted D shaped tunnel 3.6m wide x 4.5m high to be mainly excavated from the downstream portal: To date 979m of the Boulder Creek tunnel have been excavated

12 Big Silver Hydroelectric Site - Innergex Renewable Energy; this ~40MW project conveys water through an 1800m long 6m wide x 5.5m high tunnel.

13 BC Hydro - Phase I of the Site C project: included are two diversion tunnels approximately 670m and 762 long with a diameter of 12.2m. The project also comprises some drainage tunnels with access adits under the dam. Technical and Financial submissions are currently scheduled for September and October 2015, respectively. BC Hydro John Hart Generating Station Replacement - Hydro project located in Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, this nearly $1B project includes a 2.1km long power tunnel, underground powerhouse and associated adit tunnels. AltagGas 66MW McLymont Creek Hydro Project - The 2.7km long tunnel for was completed earlier this year. AltaGas will begin commissioning in September and expects to produce power at the end of September. McLymont Creek is located downstream of the Forrest Kerr project which was commissioned last year and is currently supplying power to BC Hydro s grid.

14 In the mining sector, preliminary design of several future mine infrastructure projects show tunnels for access and haulage of mined mineral. For example, the conceptual design for Seabridge Gold s KSM project shows two 23 km long ore conveyance tunnels and numerous drainage tunnels. Some of the major pipeline projects in British Columbia also have tunnels planned along their alignment: the Kinder Morgan Transmountain Pipeline project is planned to go through a 3.8m diameter - 2km long tunnel under Burnaby Mountain. The Northern Gateway project includes two planned tunnels along its alignment: the Clore and Hoult tunnels located approximately 50km east of Kitimat.

15 TransLink s Evergreen Line Rapid Transit Project - includes a 2km long concrete segment tunnel being excavated with a 10m diameter EPB TBM: started in June 2014, with completion at the end of Broadway-UBC Line - TransLink, Metro Vancouver's and the City of Vancouver are both supporting a tunnel option. Local government officials are now looking for alternate sources of funding. The project remains on the table. Port Mann Water Supply Tunnel - The excavation of Metro Vancouver s 1 km long x 3.1m diameter tunnel completed in June of this year and the contractor is making preparations to install the 2.1m diameter welded steel water main in the tunnel and shafts. Completion of the overall project in fall 2016.

16 Metro Vancouver has more tunnel projects planned: Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel -1.1km long x 5.7m diameter tunnel connecting the Vancouver suburbs of North Vancouver and Burnaby below Burrard Inlet is currently in the detailed design phase. Annacis Main No. 5 Water Tunnel - is a proposed water supply tunnel beneath the Fraser River. Pre-design activities are currently taking place while construction is expected to commence in Metro Vancouver s Coquitlam Intake No. 2 Tunnel - Conceptual design is slated to begin in 2015.
