3 SECTION GENERAL This section does not apply to electrical or structural quantity sheets. These are discussed separately in their respective design manuals. Quantity sheets are, by definition, contract drawings. Nevertheless they are discussed in this chapter because, as for all other documentation, quantity sheets are also forms to be completed by the designer. The purpose of the quantity sheets is to provide the contractor with detailed information pertaining to the tender items on the Form of Tender. The sequence of the tender items on the quantity sheets is the same as that on the Form of Tender, i.e. in numerical order of the Item Codes (see CPS Item Master File), without separating Plan Quantity Payment (PQP) items from measured items. This is accomplished by selecting the appropriate quantity sheet and, where necessary, showing PQP items and measured items on the same sheet. The illustrations of the quantity sheets in this chapter were produced using the "Q- Sheet" program developed in Southwestern Region Reference Publications - Plan Quantity Payment (Field Verification Procedures and Records) Manual. - Provincial Roads Directive B-113 (Plan Quantity Payment for Construction Contracts) Index of Quantity Sheets Tender items are detailed and documented for inclusion in the contract drawings on the following quantity sheets. The designer reduces these standard format quantity sheets to 82" x 11" letter size for use in Limited Plans Format Contracts F1-1

Not all Tender items have been shown. The intent is to show samples of typical entries, rather than illustrating a complete Work Project in which quantity sheets relate to one another. - The reference columns and reference lines are completed by Construction personnel only. - PQP items require a blank column next to the item column (except "each" items). - Lump Sum items require a blank column next to the item column. - Measured items do not require a blank column next to the item column. - PQP items and Measured items may appear on the same Quantities - Miscellaneous 1 or 2 sheets if the tender item sequence requires this. - One blank horizontal line is required between each station and location entry except for pipe culverts or structure tender items where two (2) blank lines are required. These blank lines are provided for stage construction and are utilized by Construction personnel. These are minimum requirements which may be increased as deemed necessary. - Quantities in adjacent columns which are to be combined into one item are subtotalled first. A bracket under the Sub Totals indicates the combination into one tender item F1-2

5 - Quantities to be forwarded to another quantity sheet are subtotalled and recorded on the Sub-Totals Carried Forward line. - Quantities which are recorded for the contractor's information only, are totalled and are to appear in the "Totals" line without tender item number. - Spaces for Totals, Unit and Item No. not used are to be marked by a dash or cross to preclude the possibility of missing information. - With PQP tender items, only one quantity entry is allowed per line with the exceptions as shown on the sample quantity sheets. - Measured items may have more than one quantity entry per line. - (P) in the blank line above 'Totals' indicates that the item is a PQP item. Measured items are recognized by the absence of (P). - No notations of any kind are to be placed outside the border line of the quantity sheets Limited-Plans Format The foregoing instructions also apply to Limited-Plans Format Contracts. It is important that Limited-Plans Format is chosen only for types of contracts in which all information for the contractor and for contract administration can be presented clearly and completely. No information is to be sacrificed in order to make the contract fit the format. Limited-Plans Format may be suitable for contracts which do not require full plan and profile coverage, such as: - simple resurfacing contracts - clearing contracts - fencing contracts - noise barrier contracts - subdrain contracts - equipment rental contracts - culvert replacement contracts - roadside safety improvement contracts In the simplest form, such contracts require only a limited number of Tender items and only a few drawings, a key plan, certain details and typical sections and the quantity sheets, all in letter size F1-3
