3 PART J1 BUILDING FABRIC J1.2 Thermal construction - general Insulation must comply with AS/NZS Bulk insulation to be tested by a NATA certified lab - Certification from an independent accredited organisation - not just a statement from a manufacturer or supplier 3

4 PART J1 BUILDING FABRIC J1.2 Thermal construction - general Insulation must be against stud member - Specify 600mm wide insulation to fill steel stud cavity - Standard batts are 580mm wide for timber frame Form a continuous thermal barrier with ceilings, walls, floors - Include insulation under box gutters Reflective insulation must be installed with the necessary airspace to achieve the required R-Value - R-value of reflective insulation is calculated, based on specific criteria that is particular to each building system 4

16 SPECIFICATION J5.4 Pipe Insulation Comply with AS/NZS As an alternative to test method ASTM C335, the Material R-value of preformed pipe insulation may be calculated as follows: The thermal conductivity shall be measured (Note: Conductivity varies with temperature) The following formula shall then be applied R = (r 2 log e (r 2 /r 1 ))/k where R = Material R-value of the preformed pipe insulation section r 1 = inner radius of the pipe insulation r 2 = outer radius of the pipe insulation k = thermal conductivity of the insulation in planar form 16
