The bottom portion of the silt fence shall be trenched into the soil to a minimum depth of 6 inches. 3.2 STRAW BALES A. Construction Requirements Straw bales shall be placed to reduce erosion and trap sediment. Straw bales shall be maintained until permanent vegetation is established. In addition: 1. Straw bales shall be maintained in a continuous fashion. 2. Bales shall generally be installed on the contour. 3. Bales shall be securely anchored with stakes driven at least 24 inches into the soil. 4. The bottom of bales shall be trenched into the soil to a depth of 6 inches. 5. Bales shall be backfilled after staking to prevent sediment from passing beneath bale. 3.3 TEMPORARY BERMS A. Construction Requirements Temporary berms shall be constructed around soil stockpile locations. B. Maintenance Requirements Sediment deposits shall be removed after each storm event. Deposits must be removed when they reach approximately three-fourths the height of the barrier. Sediment removal shall include removal and disposal in a location where it will not erode into construction areas or water courses. 3.4 TEMPORARY SEDIMENT BASINS A. Construction Requirements Sediment basins shall be used to trap and store sediment from the erosive areas. Proposed sediment basin layout and construction methods shall be submitted to the Owner/Architect for review and approval prior to installation. B. Maintenance Requirements Sediment deposits shall be removed when depth of sediment reaches three-fourths of the depth of the structure. The Sediment basins will be maintained until all disturbed areas draining into the structure have been satisfactorily stabilized and turf established to prevent erosion. The structure may then be backfilled, properly compacted, and seeded to permanent vegetation. Project # T Sediment and Erosion Control

22 3.5 MAINTENANCE A. All erosion and sedimentation control devices shall be maintained by the Contractor until such time that permanent turf has been established to such a level to prevent erosion and the transport of sediment. END OF SECTION Project # T Sediment and Erosion Control
