2 BRIEF HISTORY Establishment of Koperasi Hutan Jaya Lestari in Konawe Selatan on march Koperasi Hutan Jaya Lestari (KHJL) together JAUH Sultra dan TFT conducting sustainable forest management in forest owned by members KHJL ( 2004 ). FSC certificate obtained by FSC on May Establishment of primary wood industry (PT. Konsel Jaya Lestari) in 2006 SK IUPHHK HTR (community forest plantation permit) 4.639,95 Ha obtained from Bupati on June Signing RKUPHHK HTR (long term planning) & RKTUPHHK HTR (annual planning) in April 2010 by Kadishut Konawe Selatan. FSC certificate obtained by FSC for the second time (2010) March 2011 obtained sawmill permit from governor of Sulawesi Tenggara, with the capacity of 300 m3/year. Implementation of Timber Legality Assurance System for KHJL and Industry on 2011.

12 Challenge Short term term needs of members versus crop cycle length HTR development requires substantial investment for delineating and seeds Strong commitment to assisting in strengthening human resources and institutional for the model application of management area and business

13 Recommendation It is time the government gives confidence to the community forest management because people were able to prove that they can manageforests sustainably. Need for long term (minimal 10 years) commitment from investors for capital support for the community with a low interest Need for long term commitment from donors for institutional strengthening and human resources in community based forest management
