An arborist s report with detailed descriptions of the existing vegetation and its condition is attached. Existing Conditions The subject site is a flat primarily unvegetated parcel approx ha in area bounded by a Hydro Corridor on the North, Trim Road on the South, existing residential on the East, and open space on the West. Please refer to the attached information, plans and airphotos on the following pages. The only existing vegetation on site consists of a young Trembling Aspen towards the eastern boundary of the site and two American Elm along the southerly boundary. The attached vegetation assessment by Barbara Hemming ISA Certified Arborist summarizes the existing vegetation on site. Impact on Existing Vegetation Minimal. Only one 150mm cal. Poplar tree will be removed, plus some scrub willows and poplar saplings; however, these will be replaced by several new trees as detailed below and indicated on the attached Landscape Plan. Proposed Landscape Development The proposed development will result in a net addition of several trees to this site, namely Sugar Maple (5), Red Oak (5), White Spruce (6) and Colorado Spruce(4). 6 Site Plan for Mondavi Court Site Address:1765 Trim Rd, Ottawa, ON Prepared for Longwood Builders Requested by Sid Thakar of Thakar Associates Design Consultants Inspection date: 03, 09, 2012 Arborist: Barbara Hemming, ISA certification # ON Wentworth Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K2B 5J8 bhemming@sympatico.ca PHONE Type of Inspection: Visual analysis from the ground. Existing General Conditions: The area of the property is approximately 8100 M 2. It is bound on the north side by the Hydro Corridor which is treeless. It is bound on the south and west sides by undeveloped almost treeless land. On the east side it connects with Mondavi St, the side of a residential property on the same street and a fence that runs along the back of residential properties along Breezewood St. The objective of this report is to identify significant trees and recommend strategies for tree preservation during development and construction at the site. Tree Condition Ratings Very good condition describes a tree exhibiting normal, vigorous growth with minimal amounts of fine deadwood, no structural defects or visible signs of disease. Good condition describes a tree with 60 to 90% normal canopy density, little or no dieback, some deadwood but no major dead stems or limbs, possible infestation causing minor damage and minor cavities at wound sites and only minor structural defects. Fair condition describes a tree declining with 30 to 60% of normal canopy density, twig and branch dieback, failure of one scaffold branch, infestation causing significant damage, mix of small, medium, and large deadwood, or presence of disease and decay causing structural instability. Treatment recommended by an arborist would be essential but would not guaranty survivability especially if subjected to root loss caused by construction activity. Poor condition is a tree with less than 30% canopy, or dieback of large major scaffold branches, or failure of more than one scaffold branch, loose bark, severe infestation and irreparable damage, or extensive decay causing structural stability. A tree described as poor is in severe decline and is unlikely to tolerate any root damage or fill soil typical of development and construction. 1
7 Critical Root Zone, (CRZ) is the area around the tree or groups of trees in which no grading or construction activity may occur. In keeping with the City of Ottawa requirement D = diameter of trunk in centimetres, D x 10cm = Critical Root Zone DBH or diameter at breast height means the measurement of the diameter of the trunk at 120cm. above grade. It is used for trees of 15cm in diameter or greater at breast height. Trees less than this are measured at a height of 30cm above grade. Significant tree denotes a high quality tree, rarely found species, or species at risk; contributing to the evaluation is the location, size, or maturity and aesthetic value that it adds to the property and surrounding environment or whose loss will adversely and irreparably affect the environmental health of the area. Species found at 1765 Trim Rd: Trembling Apen; Populus tremuloides American Elm; Ulmus americana Table 1 Trees of Significance No. Species Location DBH Ht Condition Remarks CRZ M cm M 1 South boundary Trunk is imbedded in Elm near center Very good broken pavement South boundary Double stem, single Elm near center 19 7 Good trunk, included bark Near eastern Trembling boundary in Aspen Mondavi Good Double stem 1.5 extension These are the only trees on future site of Mondavi Court.
