The Magnificent Magical Mahogany Tree Written by Charlie, Olivia, Dylan, Alena and Megan.
The Amazon rainforest isn t just any rainforest it is the largest rainforest in the world. In the Amazon rainforest it is boiling hot but sometimes it rains and when it rains it is called precipitation. This will fall on the leaves and down to the understory. There are four layers in the rainforest forest floor, under story, canopy and the highest: emergent layer. The forest floor is very dark because all the leaves are in the way that it only gets 2% of the light. Next is the understory it is still very dark but not as dark as the forest floor but most animals live there. Next is canopy most of the light shines there and most of the colourful birds live there. Then the emergent layer all of the birds fly there because there is so much room for everyone. The weather in the rainforest is very hot because it s near the equator, which means it closer to the sun than other parts of the world. And the Amazon rainforest is located in South America.
One blistering hot day, two men walked into the Amazon rainforest and their names were Mike and Dave, but they only cared about themselves, not others. Mike pointed to a great Mahogany tree and demanded Dave to saw it down with his chainsaw. Mike then carelessly stomped out of the rainforest.
Dave walked to the tree and started sawing the tree with the heavy chainsaw. VROOM! The tree was surely very hard. Dave grew tireder and tireder, he wiped the sweat that came down his face and continued. BUZZZ! The tree was huge and was solid. Then he stopped and leaned against the titanic tree. Before he knew it, Dave drifted to sleep by the soft sound of crickets and the hot heat.
A Tapir trotted from the forest floor to Dave. It was as big as a pig! He started snorting, Senhor, please don t cut down the tree because it is my home, you wouldn t like it if someone started demolishing your house, would you? So think about the things surrounding you.
Next came an Eye-Lash Viper, he spiralled down the trunk of the tree and hissed, Senhor, please do not cut down the tree because I catch my prey in the tree, and then she slithered away.
A Harpy eagle swooped down and squawked in his ear Senhor, please don t cut down this tree because where will we hide from our predators? she then took off like a plane and flew back up to the Emergent layer.
An army of Poison Dart frogs hopped and leaped to Dave. One of the frogs came close to Dave and whispered, Please do not cut down this wonderful tree because there are plenty of spiders crawling around on the tree for us to feast on. Then they left.
A girl from the Amerindians tribe, called Tiana, tip-toed to Dave and whispered, This tree is the tree that we all share, this tree is the tree that we use for our communication, and trees give us oxygen, no trees, no oxygen, no oxygen and no air we can t breathe and if we can t breathe all living things will die.
Then all of a sudden Dave woke up and picked up his chainsaw and was about to saw, but just then he could hear the calming flow of the Amazon river, he could smell the lovely sent of the juicy fruits and a range of different coloured birds souring through the sky. Then he turned around and there right in front him, were a bunch of animals gazing right up in his face including a bright yellow Eye-lash viper, a spotted Jaguar and much more.
It took Dave a long time to think but then thought that he should not cut down the tree. He dropped his chainsaw and it landed with a THUMP! He carefully walked out of the Amazon rainforest respecting everything around him.
Dear readers, We have written this book because we want to help deforestation to stop. Deforestation is destroying tons of rainforests, this is because of farming and making paper, soap and perfume and much more, we are making houses put of tree logs. Trees give us oxygen and if we don t have oxygen we can t breathe and if can t breathe all living things will die. Deforestation is destroying habitats we need these animals for reproduction of new trees and plants. This book will help you understand how bad deforestation really is. It also will make you turn the next page because will the horrible man cut down the humble mahogany tree? Will all the animals convince him to not cut the tree down? And will all the animals be saved? We ll see..
