4 What is the ENVIROTHON? High school students working in teams: Take part in outdoor workshops and competitions; Find solutions to environmental problems; Gain exposure to people working for the environment; Take part in environmental improvement projects.

5 How Ontario Envirothon Works 10,000 students participate in Ontario Envirothon workshops, field trips and regional competitions in 24 Regional Envirothon events. 24 teams from across Ontario compete at a 4-day Provincial Envirothon Competition. 1 team will represent Ontario at the North American Envirothon Championships.

20 Top Ten Reasons to Participate 1. It provides teacher s with quality curriculum study guides which can be integrated into the classroom; 2. Students will be exposed to a variety of career options from forestry to ornithology; 3. It helps to develop tomorrow s environmental leaders. 4. The program teaches students to work co-operatively and to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to learn about environmental topics and issues; 5. Envirothon gets students outdoors while maintaining an academic environment; 6. Envirothon provides career mentoring opportunities through direct contact with resource professionals, researchers and technicians in field conditions. 7. The program increase students awareness of the natural balance and complexity of environmental ecosystems; 8. Envirothon increases students understanding of basic science concepts in a variety of areas. 9. The program provides opportunities for students to experience differing views and concepts relative to environmental issues; 10. It provides opportunities for students to experience new ideas, geography, and culture through travel and interaction throughout Ontario and North America.
