2 The Brigid Awards is an annual event hosted by The Irish Friends of Labor to honour Irish Australian women who have made, or are making a contribution to the broader community, the Labor Party, and the Union movement. Nominations are now open for these awards. Closing Date for nominations is 5pm Monday 19 December There are three categories for the Brigid Awards: 1. Community Hero (New Category) 2. Contribution to the Australian Labor Party 3. Contribution to the Australian Union movement. 1. Community Hero (New Category) We welcome nominations of Irish Australian women who have made or are making a significant contribution to their community through sport, culture, not for profit activity or any other field. Nominations for this award can be made by: * Any recognised community organisation or not-for-profit including sporting clubs, charities or other voluntary organisations. * Any NSW Labor Federal MP or Senator * Any member of the State Parliamentary Labor Party * Any other NSW Labor Party branch (see list under category number 2) 2. Contribution to the Labor Party Nominations for this award can be made by: Any NSW Branch of the Labor Party (nominations must be signed by a branch secretary) Any NSW Labor Federal MP or Senator Any member of the State Parliamentary Labor Party Any Labor Action Committee The Women s Forum 3.Contribution to the Union movement Nominations for this award can be made by: Any affiliated Union of the NSW Labor Party. 6 "The support from Irish Friends of Labor from the first Brigid Awards was a lovely boost to my campaign in Macquarie. It's terrific to recognise the contribution of women in the Labor Party with Irish heritage have made to society and I encourage party members to nominate for this years awards. The awards will be presented at a Gala dinner in Sydney in February St Brigid of Ireland is one of Ireland s three patron saints, (the others being St Patrick and ST Columba).
