The Water Challenges Billions of people lack access to safe drinking water, sanitation and energy while climate change and growing demands put extra pressure on the existing systems. There is a significant lack of information in natural infrastructure. US needs a national vision to manage risks from catastrophic storms. If no action is taken to reduce flood vulnerability, most coastal cities would become dangerous and inhospitable places to live, with annual losses in excess of US$1 trillion dollars.

WBCSD WATER STEWARDSHIP JOURNEY Have you identified your global water risks? Do you understand your impacts at site? What is your response and engagement strategy? Shared risks = shared opportunities = shared responsibilities Reduce risks of business disruption Ensure business continuity over time Contribute to government & community efforts in countries of operation Accelerate business movement worldwide from risk assessment to implementation of response strategies at watershed level in collaboration with other key stakeholders

Do you know How many of your sites are in water-scarce areas? Which sites are at greatest risk? How much of your total production is generated from your most at risk sites? How many of your suppliers are in water scarce areas now and will be in 2025? How many of your employees live in countries that lack access to improved water and sanitation?

Since the launch in 2007 the GWT has Been downloaded over times Been used by 400+ companies (estimate) Been increasingly recognized as the best available approach for companies to assess corporate water-related risks, improve decision-making, shape water management plans, and strengthen communications with internal and external stakeholders on water issues. Been endorsed by the GRI Applauded by the Carbon Disclosure Project

The Global Water Tools: where are we? 1. Global Water Tool customizations Cement, Oil & Gas, Utilities, India 2. Next steps? Update GWT with new available External Data Sets Strengthen IT structure to avoid limitations of excel and current online mapping system Version 2.0 India Water Tool Connect to the Business Solutions e.g. Investing in Natural Infrastructure

External datasets (~30) Dataset owners gave permission to WBCSD for use in tool Original datasets have not been modified (except for access in some developed countries with WHO / UNICEF s approval) The datasets: Have global coverage Are available in the public domain Are considered valid by the global community of water stakeholders Are recent Will be updated

INDIA WATER TOOL The first step for companies to understand their water risks and prioritize their water management actions in India. Increases business participation in reducing shared water risks. Demonstrates that Indian Industry can collaborate and lead on water. Enter all your sites, and their water withdrawal See the water quality and availability data for each location.
