Topics include the chemistry of contaminated atmospheres; the influence on meteorological conditions of dispersion of pollutants; abatement processes used in the control of emissions; classification and nature of solid waste, and solid waste disposal techniques; sources and methods for the disposal of radioactive contaminants; and related health effects. 2 Grade Policy: Homework 20% Term paper/project 10% 1 st and 2 nd Exams 40% Final Exam. 30% Homework problems are to be solved and turned in the week following the assignment. Course term paper/project report and presentation (PowerPoint) are due on 14 th week. Sample topics for term paper/project will be posted in the Moodle for reference. The report will consist of background information (environmental problem), main part (causes, effect, and solution) which may also include calculations (or Excel spreadsheet) if required, conclusions, and references. Description: CE 361 Solid and Hazardous Waste Engineering Exposure to the area of air pollution control, solid waste disposal, and radioactive waste disposal.
