3 Carmeuse Resources & Energy As a mining company, Carmeuse is inately attentive to conservation and management of resources As a company with an energy intensive manufacturing process, Carmeuse is conscious of energy use and cost As a European based company, Carmeuse is sensitive to issues with energy supply and fossil fuel use (GHG emissions) Carmeuse has been active in development of alternative fuels for lime kilns for ~10 yrs

4 Waste Free connection with Carmeuse Waste Free, LLC meets with MDEQ on permitting for new facility Carmeuse Lime group meets with MDEQ on permitting alternative fuels for River Rouge processing plant MDEQ recognized the potential synergy and introduced the companies

5 Genesis of R3 Focus on application within Carmeuse that would recover 100% of the resources in the Waste Free product Both Carmeuse and Waste Free recognized the need for a system to deal with mixed materials containing both organic and inorganic components R3 was formed as a joint venture to develop a process to process these difficult materials in an environmentally responsible manner

6 Resource separation R3 identify gasification as separation method and began investigating available technologies No available technology that satisfied all criteria, so R3 began developing technology internally Lab testing performed in 2008 Pilot plant built in 2010 Production equipment engineered in 2011

7 Pilot plant results 100% resource recovery from process material Syngas usable as kiln fuel Valuable minerals recovered Iron (or aluminum) Evaluate materials appropriate for processing Any compound material with reusable inorganic content, otherwise difficult to separate from organic fraction

8 Potential materials Unrecyclable plastics (lacks inorganics) Mixed metal/ plastics Composite parts Reject razor/ needles Copper wire trimmings Paint sludge?

9 Reprocessing of paint sludge Ongoing discussion between Waste Free and GM on management of difficult materials Multiple site visits with GM to further investigate potential R3 decision to invest in trials and testing of material

10 Reprocessing of paint sludge 20% - 30% of dried sludge Recovered minerals that can be further processed and re-used for paint production 70% - 80% of dried sludge Clean-burning syngas that gas be used to displace pulverized coal from lime kilns 100% material recovery!

11 Reuse of recovered minerals R3 has done extensive work with several industry contacts Initially worked to develop applications working with 3 rd parties Have recently incorporated technical experts do accelerate application development within R3
