1 Illinois Environmental Protection Agency The Office of Pollution Prevention conducts Educational Outreach Technical Assistance And coordinates the Pollution Prevention (P2) Internship Program - Now includes P2 and E2
2 Technical Assistance Walk through site-visits focus on: Source Reduction/Pollution Prevention Energy Efficiency On-site recycling as opposed to off-site recycling Site-visit will take hours to conduct; is dependent on the size of the facility Free and voluntary
3 Technical Assistance (continued) OPP has four technical staff members located in the IEPA regional offices: Marion, Brian Rodely Collinsville, Andy Jankowski Springfield, Richard Reese Des Plaines, Chris Puccini The site visits are not regulatory inspections or compliance audits
4 Technical Assistance (continued) Post site-visit: You will receive a report summarizing our recommendations We can provide additional assistance for implementation that includes: Assisting in the US DOE ESA performed at your facility prior to the start of the summer internship. Placement of a summer intern student at your company to focus on P2/E2 project (s) or focus on one or two major ESA findings Collaborative effort with a major state university to assist in problem definition followed up by a senior design project of three to four engineering students

6 University Senior Design Projects We are piloting a senior design project as a continuation of one of our summer intern s work at a central Illinois facility. Several colleges require that a senior design project must be completed before they graduate. We will be investigating this option for future endeavors.
7 Pollution Prevention Internship Program In 1988 The Illinois Chamber of Commerce made initial request to the IEPA for assistance. In 1989 The Agency responded by placing two interns at two separate electroplating facilities in Chicago.
