1 New Challenges for Energy System in the Mediterranean Region 2014 Edition Training course for public officers and energy experts from the Mediterranean Region San Servolo Island, Venice November 2-6, 2014 Overview Enel Foundation, in cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'energie (OME), Renewable Energy Solutions for the Mediterranean Association (RES4MED), and the Venice International University (VIU), organizes a training course focused on the recent development of energy system in the Mediterranean Region. The course provides a general overview of the current status of the energy markets in the Mediterranean basin, together with a comprehensive review of the main matter that contributes to shape modern energy system in the region. The course is tailored for the participation of officers belonging to energy ministries, regulatory authorities, and operators from non-eu Mediterranean countries. Structure of the course Activities are organized around lectures on the most relevant energy policy issues, integrated with case studies and study group activities tutored by an expert. Lecturers are chosen among international experts belonging to IEA, OME, RES4MED, MEDREG and Enel Foundation. Lectures topics Global energy outlook and focus on the Mediterranean region Energy efficiency and energy indicators Renewable energy policies and markets in the Mediterranean Regional integration of gas markets Developing interconnections in the Mediterranean Basin Study Groups During the course, participants will be divided in different study groups, that will deepen and discuss relevant aspects emerged in the lectures. Study groups will present the results of their activities in an ad hoc session taking place on the last day of the course.

2 Duration and location The training course will last 5 days (November 2-6, 2014) and will be held at the VIU premises located on San Servolo Island in Venice. Participation requirements and application procedure The course is reserved to 30 participants with at least 5 years of work experience within ministries, regulatory authorities, TSOs and energy companies, coming from the following non- EU Mediterranean countries: 1. Albania 2. Algeria 3. Bosnia-Herzegovina 4. Egypt 5. Israel 6. Jordan 7. Lebanon 8. Libya 9. Montenegro 10. Morocco 11. Palestinian Authority 12. Tunisia 13. Turkey

3 The course will be held in English, therefore a good knowledge of such a language is required. To take part in the selection for participating, please fill out the application form and send it by to Eugenio Santagata (eugenio.santagata@enelfoundation.org), together with an up-to-date curriculum vitae (in English and in Europass format). The application deadline is August 1, Selection results will be announced by September 30, Participation costs (travel, accommodation and course tuition fee) will be covered by the organizers. Enel Foundation places great emphasis on involving youth and women in training activities and promotes a balanced gender mix in the selection of participants, as well as geographical diversification, aiming at having as many countries as possible represented. A certificate of attendance, jointly signed by Enel Foundation and IEA, will be issued to all the participants at the end of the training course.
