Heat Storage for Intermittency Need to time-shift from when energy is available to when it is needed CHP Solar Thermal Solar PV Heat Pumps Biomass Waste Heat Off-peak Elec... Intermittent input energy Heat storage time Controlled output energy hot water heating time Need for something smaller and better than hot water tank
Example Product: SunampPV Hot water made using PV solar electricity energy. Excess production is stored in heat battery inside SunampPV. Excess PV electricity production diverted and stored in heat battery Cold mains water High flow rate hot water instantaneously produced 850 homes EastHeat trial: Up to 75% of annual hot water FREE
Sunamp Technology Very energy dense (around 4 times hot water) Non-toxic, non-flammable Phase Change Materials (PCMs) Store latent heat when melting & crystallizing Custom developed with University of Edinburgh Same basis as re-useable handwarmers, but packaged as a high power SUNAMP HEAT BATTERY Product range with multiple capacities & functions Integrate with existing electrical, heating, hot water Ideal for retrofit upgrades to use local renewable heat and electricity High storage capacity in a small space deals with intermittency (ENERGY DENSE)
Core Development Sunamp Heat Battery Sunamp developed world s first volume-production heat battery (made in Sunamp own factory). Sunamp Heat Battery is core Sunamp product: Modular change shape and capacity Scalable adapt to different installations High power store or discharge heat energy at >35 kw Energy dense 4x better than hot water, oil or glycol Advanced, Stable, Safe No Degradation 22,000 cycle test completed Based on Phase Change Material (PCM) developed in R&D collaboration with University of Edinburgh. Patents for materials, heat battery and applications granted in U.K. and China. Pending in other countries. Collaboration Partners: Modular 2.25 kwh 35 kw PCM 58 C 130 Wh/L PCM 5-80 C

Most farms are off the gas grid. They rely on electricity, LPG or oil and fuel prices inevitably go up over the long term. Many farmers have invested in solar panels, wind turbines, biomass and AD. Ideally the energy generated would perfectly match the on-farm usage: however the problem is that energy generation is often not at the right time for usage; or there is too much generation and the excess just has to be exported back to the electricity grid, sometimes without adequate recompense. So it makes economic sense to store this energy to use later on the farm, when and where it is needed. This is where Sunamp Heat Batteries excel. Key Features cycle life proven with no degradation Unlimited cycle life projected 10 year manufacturers warranty 10 year capacity warranty In volume production Proven in hundreds of homes of all sizes Compact packaging Rapidly customized size, shape, capacity Modular energy & power scales up Excellent energy density Exceptional power density Best safety non-flammable, non-toxic No maintenance required Case Study Hundreds of farms have small wind turbines or PV solar arrays on farm buildings. As well as ROCs or Feed-in Tarrif paid for generating clean electricity, they supply some of the on-farm energy. Even so a lot of electricity is exported, for low or no recompense. What if there was a way to use more of that energy on the farm? There is now. SunampStack is designed as a large-capacity (yet very compact sized) version of Sunamp s proven SunampPV domestic product. SunampStack can be easily configured to save and store excess PV or Windgenerated electricity (which would otherwise have flowed back to the grid). The energy is stored as heat, and is then available for hot water, process heat or space heating. Imagine covering a very large fraction of the heating bill for your farm buildings with electricity the government has already paid you for! Adding an Air-Source Heat Pump package to SunampStack increases the savings further and means you can take advantage of the Renewable Heat Incentive to amortise costs. For example a 275 square metre farmhouse fitted with a single SunampStack the size of a fridge-freezer (sited neatly in the boot room) along with a Daikin Altherma HT heat pump, provides 100% of heat and hot water for a family of four year-round. (It even runs perfectly at -20 C.) The savings are amazing the annual bill is half what it would be using mains gas!
