7 Environmental Commitment NJFC Green Guidelines The New Jersey Food Council [NJFC] is supporting a new campaign to endorse Green Guidelines that favorably impact the environment, enhance public education, benefit the communities in which we do business and create a model for other industries to emulate. The New Jersey Food Council is an alliance of Food retailers and their supplier partners united to provide vision and leadership to advance the interest of its members. New Jersey Food Council, Trenton, NJ James J. 10 Bag Reduction & Recycling Penn Jersey Paper Penn Jersey paper developed and manages BagSmart to assist supermarkets in reducing bag volume, increasing recycling and promoting reusable bags. Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ / Quaker City Our collection partner, Goodwill Industries provides weekly collection of recycled plastic bags, stretch film and case shrink wrap along with recycling bin management and maintenance. 13 Food Waste Recycling McCaffrey s Launches Comprehensive Food Waste Recycling Program Food Waste Recycling Food & organic waste is source separated from each department and placed in green containers lined with compostable bags. Food & organic waste in the stores is put into a dedicated organic compactor equipped with an order control system. Compactor is picked up every other week and sent to the recycling facility. Waste cut by 45% Collections cut by 50% 13

14 Food Waste Recycling Single Stream Recycling Single Stream Recycling makes it easier for people to recycle - whether home or at work. Single-stream programs have greatly increased the recycling rates, recovering as much as three times the amount of recyclable materials. 14
