4 GTZ Program Took 7 Years to Complete 2 Phases Building HVAC, Lighting and Operations Transportation to and from church Achieved Zero in 2015 Must do something every year to stay at zero buy wind energy, have trees planted and rely on members to reduce transportation emissions and install LED bulbs

5 Why Did CBC Undertake GTZ Ecology Mission Group active for 30 years Yearly ecology worship services since late 1990 s Energy audit done in 2003 Climate change prevention a goal since 2003 Started with encouragement of congregants to buy wind energy for their residences Adopted principles that humans shouldn t dominate nature but exert care, and that everything is connected Consensus that climate change is real and humaninduced

10 Bright Idea , accompanied Don Kane of MLUC to Bernardine Center (BC) of Chester to discuss giving CFL s to their clientele Gave for about a year, then a hiatus, then CBC started program again in 2010 Expanded to include PACS in 2014 BC clients must show energy bills to get bulbs Now give only LED s; $ support from MLUC & BCGV Early survey showed 6 hour/day bulbs being replaced (100-w and 60-w equivalents) Give ~ 700 bulbs per year; buy on sales at Home Depot
