2 REAP 2012 Developed in a process led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW). 3 REAP targets REAP s target is to achieve an increase in resource efficiency (GDP/DMC) of 50 % by 2020 compared to 2008 and by a factor of 4 10 by Reduction of resource use DMC: - 20 % ( ) Absolute decoupling resource use from economic growth

4 REAP s fields of action Major fields of action: resource efficient production; public procurement; the circular economy; awareness raising (focus on companies) The action plan RESET 2020 Resources.Efficiency.Technologies aims to implement resource efficiency in the areas of Innovative environmental technologies, sustainable raw materials management renewable raw materials sustainable procurement sustainable production and sustainable consumption.

6 Austria s import dependency Austria s import dependency, measured as the share of imports in total material inputs (domestic extraction plus imports) in per cent and by material category between 1960 and 2012 Imports: material requirements and environmental problems in the exporting countries

8 Austrian Mineral Resources Plan Issued in 2012 by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth identifies zones with mineral occurrences worth to be protected due to their quality and quantity existing no-go areas as housing zones etc. as well as conflict-areas as e.g. Natura 2000 areas are excluded The remaining conflict-free areas are handed over to the regional authorities responsible for land use planning to declare them as raw material safeguarding areas in their land use plans. An appropriate national minerals policy and a land use planning policy ensure accessibility of mineral resources for the next generations.

10 End of waste for recycling Ordinance on recycling construction materials entered into force on ; end-of-waste criteria for some materials valid for all buildings > 100 t construction (threshold will be raised to 750 t). Ordinance on recycling wood effective since 2012; end of waste criteria for recycling wood.

11 Best Practice Folder Resource Efficiency Issued 2015 Collection of best practice examples in the fields: Metals and non metallic mineral materials Fossil energy carriers Biomass and renewable raw materials Water Information on Costs Environmental benefits (e.g waste reduction) Contact data of companies presented Project funding: contact data (mail, phone number)

12 State award for environmental and energy technology Since 2008 innovative projects and products are awarded within 4 categories: energy and efficiency environment and climate research and innovation ressource efficiency (since 2012)

13 EcoBusinessPlan Vienna Goal: implement environmental protection actions that also support businesses' profitability Public funds are granted for consultancy, training and capital investments to private-sector companies, in some cases with support from additional public sources. To date: 1,041 enterprises involved more than 11,000 environmental projects and actions implemented

14 Scope of data base More than 300 raw materials: aggregated into 12 categories of material flows (Biomass, metal ores, minerals, fossil fuels 220 countries Time series from input indicators: eg. Direct Material Input (DMI), Raw Material Input (RMI) consumption indicators: eg. Domestic Material Consumption, Raw Material Consumption (RMC) trade indicators: Physical Trade Balance (PTB), Raw Material Trade Balance (PTB)
