From the early stages economic, ecological and social sustainability are central aspects of each project. Thus, for example it is possible for agricultural use of the areas also to take place on a parallel basis and indeed attention is given to this in each individual case. Planning & permission: Volkswind undertakes all the necessary steps for speedy and successful planning and execution of the project. Following a detailed investigation of the location and an evaluation of the wind circumstances, expert appraisals and static planning are also undertaken in order to assure long-term suitability. We take responsibility for all the necessary official applications such as building permission, appraisals concerning environmental emission and noise and establish contact with local residents, communities, natural conservation societies and local energy suppliers. Our aim is a mutually acceptable planning and setting up of new, successful wind farms, from which everyone can benefit. Financing: An individual financial plan is drawn up at the outset of each project. Due to positive entrepreneurial evaluations and our good relations with the credit institutes, Volkswind is able to arrange favourable finance terms quickly and without any cost-intensive interim finance. 3

Volkswind s many years of experience in this business create the basis for good collaboration between turbine manufacturers and regional construction companies. In this way the local economy and business community also benefits from having wind energy in the area. Commercial management: Usually, we aim to set up a locally based private operating company for each project, as this enables us to make optimum use of interests and tax advantages. Furthermore, Volkswind takes over the commercial management and thus benefits from already having access to a network of recognised experts comprised of tax advisors, lawyers and chartered accountants. Technical management: Constant monitoring and maintenance assures the economically successful operation of wind farms. The Volkswind systems are all linked to a system of remote monitoring using state-ofthe-art technology. This guarantees a quick response, should the need ever arise. Regular servicing at scheduled intervals and the availability of our own technical experts mean all requirements for smooth running are reliably in place. 5

In doing so we not only appraise the wind conditions, but also address such factors as nature conservation, the locality to housing areas and possibilities of access to the power supply grid. Therefore by using our experience, you will quickly receive a reliable, well-reasoned evaluation of the potential of using your land to harness wind energy. The performance of such an element can amount to between 1.5 and 3 MW and, depending on the location, supply over 1000 fourperson households with electricity. The details: For safety and economical reasons the distance between the individual wind turbines are up to 3 to 6 times the rotor diameter approximately 450m. The tower construction normally consists of a tubular steel tower and/or concrete, which can have a diameter of up to 6m. From the main switch at the base of the tower an underground cable leads to a substation of the local energy supplier. The stability of the wind turbines is assured by means of a foundation of reinforced concrete, which normally measures approximately 15m x 15m and has a depth of 2m - 3m. The setting up: We will build the access routes unless these are already available - for the construction of the wind farms, as well as an adjacent crane parking area. During this period we require access to your land for delivery and construction vehicles. The actual erection of a turbine does not last longer than 1-2 days. And just a few days later, the farm is connected to the power supply network and is ready for full operational use. As soon as the construction work has been completed, the area surrounding the wind farm can be used again without interruption, e.g. for agricultural purposes. No restrictions need to be imposed. 9
