The Cost-Effective Solution for Clay Soil Stabilization Advantages of Condor SS About Our Company How Condor SS Works Will It Work For You? Road Stabilization Commercial Pad Application The World Leader in Ion Exchange Technology
Condor SS: What It Is & How It Works Condor SS is an electrochemical soil stabilizer. Unlike other products, it contains a water-based sulfonated naphthalene chemical solution mixed with sulfuric acid to create a product that is highly stable yet also possesses powerful ionizing capabilities. When diluted for injection, it is safe for watersheds, plants and fish. It is designed to replace water molecules which are bound to clay particles which then allows water to move out of the clay. After treatment, the soil is subsequently compacted to eliminate capillary structures that were previously formed. The reaction is a permanent chemical ion exchange and, once the soil has been treated, the clay particles will not revert to their original unbalanced ionic state. This process all occurs in situ without removing and replacing soil with Untreated clay inundated with water molecules Clay treated with Condor SS and compacted Will It Work For You? We have developed a method for testing the efficacy of our product s ability to shed water from clay called the shake test. In it, a small amount of clay is added to two containers. In the control, only water is added; for our product, 5 drops of Condor SS are added and then both are shaken. The results are clear: Above: Before Treatment with Condor SS Below: After Treatment with Condor SS After 20 Minutes: Control bottle is on the left, Condor SS bottle is on the right. Already, the Condor clay is settling and shedding water. After 8 Hours: Control shake test is still murky, while the Condor SS-treated clay has settled and completely shed its water. Contact us if you want to conduct a shake test on the soil for your project! (503) or info@earthscienceproducts.com
Road Construction & Repair Different Methods for Different Needs Surface mixing is accomplished by windrowing the existing or new aggregate to the sides of the road, scarifying the road surface, then applying Condor SS at a rate of :1 using a water truck with a distribution bar. The aggregate is also sprayed and mixed in place. The aggregate is spread normally and sprayed with several passes of the water truck in the process. The road surface is then shaped and compacted, preferably with at least a 30,000 lb vibratory compactor. The Condor SS Process: 1. Ionization 2. Reversal of cationic force 3. Repolarization 4. Removal of absorbed water Sub-base injection is performed with a trailer-mounted injection rig with 2-4 pumping stations. The concentrated product is diluted on site with clean water at a variable rate depending on the clay content. Condor SS is then injected into the soil at a depth of 4-10 feet the zone of influence on 36 staggered centers at psi. Thousands of square feet can be treated each day with this method. 5. Compaction 6. Conversion from flocculated to dispersed structure 7. Densification 8. Stabilization Other Features of Condor SS: Releases water in clay soils, promoting dewatering through natural drainage mechanisms Effective dust control Makes roads passable through the winter & wet seasons Condor SS Works Best When: Soil content is over 30% fines passing through a #200 sieve In expansive clay soils, when Plasticity Index = >25 and Liquid Limit = >50 Above: road state prior to treatment with Condor SS Below: 20 months after treatment with Condor SS
Outpatient VA Clinic in Ft. Worth, TX: stabilized by Condor SS Commercial Pad Sites Frisco Square, Texas: 147 acres stabilized with Condor SS Dallas/Fort Worth Freight Terminal with rig injecting Condor SS Home Depot, San Antonio, TX: stabilized by Condor SS Commercial pad site injection is frequently utilized because of the expense of large commercial buildings. Injection can be performed with handheld high -pressure lance injection rods or by large, trackmounted injection equipment using pressures of gpm of diluted product. Dilution of the Condor SS concentrate is dependent on the moisture content of the soil as ascertained by pretreatment soil tests. Tests are typically performed by a certified engineer. Parking lots, driveways, entries, etc are also treated. The most important of the results sought in this particular application is reduction of Potential Vertical Rise, or PVR. This is the heaving exhibited by untreated clay soils that causes the most damage to rigid structures including concrete curbs, drives, swimming pools, etc. Condor SS routinely brings the PVR down to levels acceptable to the geotechnical engineer, providing the building owner with the confidence of knowing that their structure is safe from these damaging effects. Using Condor SS can save 30-60% or more on stabilization costs compared to other methods. In addition to being significantly more cost-efficient, Condor SS is safe for the watershed, plant life and animals, lacking the environmental footprint of lime slurry, fly ash and cement.
Advantages Condor SS is an environmentally friendly ion-exchange medium that permanently changes the nature of clay soil and how it reacts to water. Fast: Large areas can be treated in a single day Effective: Reduces PVR to <1 and soil swell to 1% (on average) with no need to remove expansive clay soils from the worksite. Condor SS reduces soil moisture by 30-90% Economical: Product and installation costs are a fraction of other stabilizers or methods Increases load capacity and shear strength: The ion exchange process actually changes the chemical and physical makeup of the clay soil and increases its unconfined compressive strength Reduces maintenance costs: Base and sub-base failures are virtually eliminated Permanent: Ion exchange s effects fundamentally change the clay s ionic state and interaction with water Non-toxic, non-flammable, noncorrosive: When used as directed, no protective breathing apparatus or special clothing is needed Reduces frost heave damage: Treated soils shed water rather than retain it, practically eliminating any swell from rain, flooding, or frozen moisture Our Company Earth Science Products is a progressive manufacturing and operating company that employs environmentally safe chemicals to improve subsurface conditions. ESP is based in Aurora, Oregon, founded in 1974 by Ed Wood, a botanist, and Dick Gearhardt, who worked in road development for the US Forestry Service and was Vice President of Zell Chemical. Together, they used their knowledge of chemistry to develop the Condor suite of products including Condor SS as well as Wood s Rooting Compound used for propagating plants. In 1981 after the eruption of Mount St. Helens, Wood s Rooting Compound and Condor AG Land Life were used in the reforesting effort with outstanding results. Today, Condor products are used around the world to stabilize roads & building sites, treat depleted or clay soils, treat septic & sewage systems, and provide bioremediation following petrochemical spills. We are proud that our products are proven to be environmentally safe. Our client list includes the Veterans Administration, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, the US Forest Service and numerous city, state, and national entities. Our products are also used across five continents. 6 All Our Fine Products: Condor SS is highly effective in permanently reducing the moisture content in expansive clays, eliminating subgrade and foundation problems The change is permanent and the clay mass becomes insensitive to variations in moisture. When well compacted it can provide bearing equivalent to solid rock. Chemical clay soil stabilization utilizing our ion-exchange technology It is evident from the experience of the construction personnel at the site that the Condor SS treatment was very effective in preventing or limiting instability of the clay soils during construction. 1993, Arizona Department of Transportation, H. Eugene Hansen, P.E. The Condor SS product process is irreversible.. The principal cause of swelling in soils is the negative charge generated by thousands of years of obliteration and alternation of earth minerals. With Condor SS the negative charges are reduced and the soil stabilized. 2005, Russell J. Scharlin, P.E. Penn State Materials Research Lab The impact to the environment of Condor products would be no more than experienced by applying similar quantities of potable water that meet EPA drinking water standards 2010, TestAmerica. The World Leader in Ion Exchange Technology Rapid, in-situ bio-remediation agent for use following petrochemical spills of all sizes Revitalizes depleted agricultural soils; turns hard, lumpy clay into viable soil Treatment for septic systems & sewage facilities to reduce odor and promote healthy function (503) P.O.
