6 Project Purpose The purpose of the project is to: Offset historical sediment deficits attributable to Sebastian Inlet, Restore/maintain the recreational beach, Restore/maintain potential habitat for marine turtles, marine life and shorebirds, and Provide storm protection for upland property and infrastructure.

14 Directive to Bid Project May 14, 2009 To provide economic stimulus to the local economy, Board of County Commissioners directed County staff to solicit bids for construction of the Project via use of the offshore sand source or via use of an upland sand source.

29 Project Performance Sea Turtle Monitoring Sea Turtle Test Plan 2010 Was upland sand an adequate medium to support incubation of sea turtle nests to term, i.e. reproductive success? Yes! Sea Turtle Monitoring Results 2011 Reproductive success for both loggerhead and green turtles was similar to, and in several cases greater than, values obtained for the natural beach. Sea Turtle Monitoring Results 2012 Preliminary results indicate similar reproductive success for both loggerhead and green turtles.

31 Lessons Learned Using Upland Sand Sub-Committee formed following Phase 1 Construction Key Discussion Points Sequencing of profile surveys to determine: Project pre construction volumes (Bid volumes) Pay profile volumes Contractor s ability to provide sand 31
