2 Is an object that slows current. They prevent electrons from moving freely. Energy in the form of heat! A measure of how quickly particles are moving. Insulators prevent the movement of heat or hold heat closer to an object. Temperature is the measure of heat!

6 The kinetic energy moves from the stick to the cue ball. To prove the energy conversion, the cue ball will move (kinetic energy). The KE of the cue ball would hopefully strike the other balls (PE). If this occurs, the energy will go from the cue ball to the other balls and the result will be movement (KE). The energy conversion is slowed by friction and converts into thermal energy (heat). After all energy is converted, we are back to PE and all pool table objects are NOT moving! All the energy is converted from the cue ball to the other balls, to the pool table by way of friction. No energy was lost or gained, simply converted.
7 The event is loud, fun, and entertaining! A loud slapping sound will occur when he hits the water! He has PE before he jumps. He has KE when he starts moving. His KE will be transferred to the water when he hits the surface. I know this because we will see a splash and hear a loud noise. His energy will end up converting to mechanical waves he will create in the pool! It will also convert to sound in the splash! Lastly, it will convert to thermal energy due to friction. This shows the LOCE because all the PE converts to KE and back to PE. The belly flopper jumps, hits the water, causes splashing/waves/sound, and then climbs out of the water. The pool surface is calm/smooth again.

Mechanical Electrical energy converts to electromagnetic by lighting the bulb! Lastly, the light gives off thermal energy (HEAT!) and the remaining energy converts by friction.
9 Thermal Electromagnetic Chemical Mechanical Heat to grow plant/friction. Light to grow plant Food chain! Movement for ALL! Electromagnetic/Nuclear (SUN!) The sun (electromagnetic/thermal/nuclear energy) causes photosynthesis so the plants can grow. In the food web shown, nature takes its course. All these conversions are chemical to mechanical. Each animal uses chemical to mechanical conversion energy to move. The final conversion is thermal that converts back to PE.
10 Chemical photosynthesis! Thermal (HEAT!) Chemical photosynthesis and shrimp eating algae Electromagnetic light for photosynthesis Thermal heat caused by movement and friction. Mechanical movement of shrimp Electromagnetic and chemical energy work together to produce photosynthesis necessary for the shrimp to feed off the algae. The shrimp uses mechanical energy to move. Lastly, the only energy that is released is thermal due to friction.
11 Chemical; Mechanical; Thermal The energy bar provides chemical energy. Jeffery uses the chemical energy and converts it to mechanical energy by movement. Jeffery builds up thermal energy (heat!) during the game. Potential; Electrical; Mechanical The keys have PE sitting in the sink. The magnet provides electrical energy because it causes the electrons in the keys to be attractive. The movement of the keys and sound generated are part of the mechanical energy conversion. (Friction (thermal energy) plays a part as well since that is what is causing the noise!)
12 Sample Scenario: Sebastian walks into a dark room and flips on the light switch. 1. List the 4 energy conversions that occur in this scenario. Mechanical, Electrical, Electromagnetic, Thermal 2. Explain how the 4 conversions occur. Sebastian flips the switch using mechanical energy. This releases the electrons in the wires to move by electrical energy. This converts into electromagnetic energy; the light bulb glows. Lastly, the conversion of thermal energy happens by the light bulb giving off heat!
