THE HYDRAULIC SECTOR IN MEXICO
Hydraulic Sector in Mexico Mexico has established as one of its main objectives to ensure the supply of water through the increase of water infrastructure, both to ensure water for human consumption and agricultural irrigation, as well as for sanitation and flood protection. 2
According to the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry (CMIC) after the Ministry of Communications and Transportation and the energy sector, the hydraulic sector is where most is invested in the country. With a remarkable infrastructure in this sector but still insufficient. Storage infrastructure Dams and borders Agricultural Hydro infrastructure Irrigation districts Total area (million hectares) Irrigation units Total area (million hectares) Districts of technified temporary Area (Millions of hectares) Drinking water coverage National Coverage Coverage in the Urban Environment Coverage in the Rural Environment 3

Mexico has approximately 0.1% of the total freshwater available worldwide, which means that a significant percentage of the territory is classified as a semi-desert zone. 7

Coverage of drinking water The country has made progress in drinking water and sewerage coverage, with 92% of the population with access to vital liquid and 90.5% of homes with drainage. Progress is insufficient when compared to other countries, in terms of drinking wáter. In 2012 Brazil had a coverage of 97% of its population; Chile of 98% and United States of 99%. In terms of sewerage, the US achieved 100% coverage and Brazil 99%. 14 Works of potable water, sewage and sanitation water infrastructure for agriculture According to the Global Water Market study, to meet the objectives of the 2030 Water Agenda to improve supply and domestic quality and for agriculture, an investment of US $ 79m is required from 2010 to INVESTMENT IN WATER FOR MEXICO From January to June 2016, 10,650.4mdp were invested. Hydric investment in Mexico (With data from the Fourth Governmental Report Millions of pesos. Investment for water treatment From December 2012 to June 2016, resources allocated to the development of potable water, sewerage and sanitation infrastructure amounted to 136,706.5 million pesos state government involvement Federal government involvement As of June 2016, 27 execution annexes were signed with an investment of 2,155mdp 14

National Water Program What have we done? Among the goals of the National Infrastructure Plan is to increase the coverage of drinking water from 92% in 2013 to 94% by 2018 and increase the installed capacity of wastewater treatment from m3 / s to m3 /, according to the Fourth Government Report Strategic water projects in this program include: TEO with an investment of 37,465 million pesos (mdp) P.T.A.R. Atotonilco with an investment of 9,564 mdp Cutzamala System with an investment of 4,886 mdp 22
More numbers. Progress was made in the construction of storage infrastructure and water supply and distribution networks to expand the irrigation area in 75,469 hectares in sites with availability and agricultural vocation. In hectares incorporated to the technified storm in 2011, the figure reached 66,563 hectares, which exceeded the programmed target by 11%; work will continue in 2012 to incorporate a larger surface area to benefit more technified storm users. In order to streamline the operation and management of the country's dam systems, twelve basin organizations have a policy of operating such infrastructure. The topobatimetric information of 81 dams was also updated. The planning stage of 32 emblematic water-related projects was completed; its implementation continues. Measures of restoration and soil preservation were implemented in 151,591 hectares in the upper parts of watersheds and technified temporary districts, in order to reduce potential damages due to runoff. 17
The trend of national and international water management In Mexico's water history, there are three stages: a) At the beginning of the 20th century, supply was given priority and storage dams, irrigation districts, aqueducts and supply systems were built b) From 1980 to 1990, the focus was on demand and its decentralization: municipalities took charge of providing potable water, sewerage and sanitation services. c) Subsequently, water sustainability (economic development with sustainability) took center stage and became relevant to wastewater treatment, water reuse and the creation of water banks. And in this, work continues. 18
