11 Wastewater Treatment A clear vision on wastewater Evides is a full cycle water company. We treat municipal wastewater in custom-designed plants for the municipalities of The Hague area: the WWTP Harnaschpolder is the biggest municipal facility of its kind in the Netherlands (1.3M pollution equivalents). We own and operate the waste water treatment plant of Schiphol Amsterdam International Airport. In the industrial parks of Vlissingen and Delfzijl we own and operate waste - water treatment plants that treat complex, chemical wastewater streams of several companies, to discharge quality. In both instances we discharge to surface waters that are designated nature reserves, hence demanding operational excellence by Evides in order to guarantee 24/7 compliance. We also operate the wastewater treatment plant of Huntsman at their Botlek (Rotterdam) site. After successfully having taken over the ownership and operation of their process water treatment plant (2008) and the construction of a multi-client demin-plant (DWP, 2010) at their site. 15 Sustainability & Innovation Sustainable solutions throughout the water chain Energy savings, the availability of fresh water and reducing our water footprint are issues which affect us all. Through our ongoing investments in research and development and the resulting innovations, we want to contribute to a better environment. As a water specialist, we play a leading role in developing innovative, sustainable solutions throughout the water chain. Research, innovation and sustainability As part of our strategy to create value and improvements for our customers, we are dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable technological concepts. Wastewater reuse There is growing interest in re-using (waste) water and in closing the water chain. Purified wastewater can be used as industrial or agricultural water or serve as a source for high quality demiwater. We work closely alongside our customers to create the best re-use solution in terms of costs and contribution to the circular economy. Residual heat: energy efficiency, lower costs, protection of the environment The use of residual heat in industry can produce significant CO 2 savings. By exchanging residual heat from the industry to preheat our raw water, we create a more sustainable production process for both companies. Our end users also benefit because we supply pre-heated demiwater to our customers. Applied research and education We invest in applied research together with our customers. In order to keep improving and innovating, we operate a number of pilot plants. Evides sponsors and learns from various research programmes at Delft University of Technology, at the Hogeschool Zeeland, at Ghent University and with Wetsus (European centre of excellence for sustainable water technology). COVRA uses the heat flow for climate control in the processing buildings and the office. Then the water is cooled to 70 degrees. 32 Facts & Figures 2016 Evides Industriewater, inventive 33
