1 Fact Sheet: Update on Siemens Water Solutions Status: February, 2014 Siemens has announced that its Industry Sector has sold the Water Technologies business to AEA Investors LP, New York, USA [Press Release Siemens Industry]. The sale includes the capital and service business for water treatment in the municipal and general industry markets, and the new company has been named Evoqua Water Technologies. Siemens will continue as before to focus its water-related activities on automation and drive solutions for the operation of water and sewage treatment plants and seawater desalination plants, which is part of the Industrial Automation Systems Business Unit. Additionally, the sale does not include Siemens Water Solutions, which is a part of the Siemens Energy Sector, Oil & Gas business, providing water and wastewater treatment solutions to the oil and gas market. Besides the solutions business for water within the Power Generation Division, compressors and blowers for water treatment and ventilation will also remain in the Energy Sector.

2 Products of the Oil & Gas Water Solutions business: The Oil & Gas Water Solutions products - that will remain with Siemens - include the core technologies for hydrothermal treatment systems; upstream and downstream Oil & Gas products; and biological (downstream) treatment systems. Project complexity ranges from standalone products to complex systems to fully integrated solutions. 5 Water Solutions High Efficiency Liquid/Liquid Hydrocyclone More Than a Water Treatment Company, an Established Leader in Oil/Water Separation As a world leader in meeting your water treatment needs, Siemens Water Solutions offers the most complete line of oil/water separation equipment available from a single source. Our liquid/liquid hydrocyclone is one of the most advanced, yet least complicated oil/water separation devices available. It provides maximum separation efficiency for the smallest space impact of the available technologies. Principle of Operation Hydrocyclones operate under system pressure, and use pressure drop as the primary source of energy. Each hydrocyclone liner in a vessel is fed tangentially to initiate a high radial velocity. The spinning motion of the fluid is accelerated by the tapered shape of the hydrocyclone liner, and the spinning motion creates a centrifugal force up to 4,000 G s which causes the oil and water to separate rapidly. The oil forms a core at the axis of the hydrocyclone and is forced out via a centered opening at the inlet end of the hydrocyclone liner. The result is a simple but effective, and very compact, oil/water separator with no moving parts. The stability of the oil core allows the hydrocyclone to operate at turndown ratios from 5:1 to 10:1. Superior Material Our hydrocyclone liners use a propietary cobalt alloy for the high erosion potential areas of the inlet, overflow, and acceleration regions. The narrow tapered section is made of duplex stainless steel. These materials of construction provide superior erosion and corrosion resistance for a long design life. Our hydrocyclone liners have a unique, non-threaded construction which reduces manufacturing cost and eliminates galling potential, to achieve near 100 percent equipment service time. Twin Ports Our hydrocyclone liners feature twin inlet ports which provide superior hydraulic stability with a straight oil core that is stable even at very low flow rates. Insensitivity to Motion The centrifugal force generated inside the hydrocyclone liner can reach 4000 times the force of gravity in some applications, nullifying the negative effects on separation caused by wave action on floating systems. 7 Water Solutions SPINSEP Vertical Flotation System Our SPINSEP vertical flotation system incorporates several unique methods for removing oil from produced and wastewater streams before they are discharged or injected. Improved technology and a vertical vessel design reduce the footprint required for this innovative flotation system. The SPINSEP flotation system can be designed as an ASME code or a non-code vessel. Applications Offshore/onshore produced water containing moderate concentrations of oil and grease Refinery wastewater treatment Removal of pulp from wastewater in the paper industry Treatment of oily wastewater Flotation Process As the influent enters, it is flowed through the Spiralsep unit installed in the inlet piping to the vessel. This component initiates gravity separation of the incoming liquid and if necessary mixes incoming flotation aids such as chemical water. The circular motion created in the SPINSEP system by the 90-degree inlet angle results in greater path distance the liquid must travel, resulting in improved removal efficiency. The SPIRALSEP unit also stimulates gas bubbles and oil droplet attachment by enhancing oil droplet sizes. Oil droplets attach and grow on the surface of the pack medium until oil droplet size overcomes the bond with the packing material, where they are skimmed into the oil bucket. Water flowing through the gas flotation zone below the packing scrubs it clean of attached oil. These droplets rise to the surface and are skimmed with incoming free oil. Flotation gas bubbles are generated by a number of different methods including DGF, eductor and sparge tubes. Our DGF technology uses a patented Brise pump system to create micro-fine gas bubbles. This system uses a dual-sided impeller that pulls both water and gas into the pump where it is dissolved into solution and fine bubbles are discharged at an accelerated rate. The DGF technology allows for instantaneous adjustments in bubble size resulting in greater adaptability to changing water chemistry characteristics. As an added feature, we have designed a SPINSEP system specific to applications that experience extreme movement, such as floating platforms (Spar, TLP, FPSO). siemens.com/energy/water-solutions
