1 A Net Zero Culture Starts with People Beyond the design, construction and operational considerations of ZNE, there is an aspect of culture and attitudes that is inherent in successful projects. Anica Landreneau, HOK As Principal and Global Sustainable Design Director, Anica leads the sustainable discipline and consultancy practice at HOK. Anica works to make Washington, DC one of the greenest cities in the world by serving her 2 nd term on the District of Columbia Green and Energy Codes TAG, authoring high performance building codes, and is appointed to the Mayor s Green Building Advisory Council, 2 nd term. Anica co-authored with the U.S. General Services Administration The New Sustainable Frontier: Principles of Sustainable Development, and for the Saudi Arabian government authored the Sustainable Urban Planning Guidelines for New Growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 1
2 Julia Raish, Paladino and Co. Julia Raish is a director with Paladino and Company, an internationally recognized green-building consulting firm. With a background in sustainable building design and implementation, master planning and site analysis, Julia brings a holistic understanding of sustainability and green building strategies to provide both technical and strategic support to her clients projects. As a director, Julia works to elevate real estate owners portfolios through effective sustainability strategies that are result-driven and have measurable impact. Julia also has extensive experience in research, analysis and writing to support the development of technical reports and feasibility studies. An experienced speaker and facilitator, Julia has presented on low impact development, net zero energy and water, and green building at local, state and national conferences. Nelson Scott Smith, Artichoke Design Nelson Scott Smith is an architect and planner that has worked with more than 50 public and private colleges and universities in the U.S. and Asia. He is the Design Architect for the USCB Recreation Center, one of the first buildings to be selected for the school s LEED-Platinum EBOM program. Scott s practice emphasizes the integration of planning and design, leadership for interdisciplinary teams of professionals, complex client groups and long-term institutional sustainability. He is a Rotch Traveling Scholar, a Loeb Fellow for Environmental Studies at Harvard s Graduate School of Design, and a Felllow to the Salzburg Seminars. 2
3 Bill Tague, UC Santa Barbara Bill McTague is Executive Director of Resource Planning and Information Technology for the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Santa Barbara. He leads the Division s strategic planning efforts to reach the twin goals of zero net energy and LEED-Platinum for the facilities within Student Affairs. He is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach in Economics, and has a Masters of Business Economics from UCSB Andrew Riley, UC Santa Barbara As Sustainability Coordinator for Student Affairs, Riley supports the development and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy planning projects, including the Student Affairs Zero-Net Energy Initiative. He also works closely with the Renewable Energy Initiative Governance Board as it administrative coordinator. He has a Masters Degree in Physics with a specialization in energy and climate studies. 3
