The complex geology of British Columbia has provided the province with a rich and varied mineral endowment, from hard-rock minerals, such as gold, copper, zinc, silver and lead, to soft-rock resources such as coal, natural gas and oil. British Columbia is recognized as a World leader for its' expertise in this field. Sustainable Resources 12: Mining is a new interactive, online course from the British Columbia Curriculum. It is designed to enhance our knowledge and expertise in this field. Module 3 Module 4 Module 5 Marks Module 1: Hydrocarbon and Mineral Resources in British Columbia Students will become familiar with the relationship between resource exploration and the development of Canada with emphasis on British Columbia and the current importance of hydrocarbon and mineral resources in British Columbia and Canada. Students will assess the impact of mining on global development and international relations and the importance of hydrocarbon and mineral resources to Canada's position in world markets. Students will have analyze the importance of the Geological Survey of Canada, and investigate a range of career options and job opportunities in the hydrocarbon and mineral resources industries. Students will also assess the processes of site reclamation after extraction operations are completed, and assess the sustainability of hydrocarbon and mineral resources.
