2 The New York City Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators is proud to announce the schedule for our upcoming annual ALANYC Educational. From Finance and Human Resource specialists to the small firm generalist or managing attorneys, the topics will provide substance and material to meet every need from experts in their fields. Attendees can enroll in a track for Finance, Human Resources or Technology and or pick and choose topics that fit their needs or interests. All of the speakers and presenters are nationally recognized in their fields. For the first time ever the Chapter is providing a program for the small law firm and the solo practicing lawyer who needs resources to manage their firm at a reduction of the cost normally associated with this type of day-long seminar. Law firms today are dealing with as many as four generations working together. Understanding this new office culture and having an insight into generational diversity is a must, not only for the law firm manager but also for firms in dealing with clients, adversaries and in their employment hiring practices. Mauricio Velásquez, President and CEO of The Diversity Training Group (DTG) will open the day s events discussing generational diversity and the effect that it has on the workforce. 4 ALANYC Would like to Present Your 2014 Keynote & Closing Speakers KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Mauricio Velásquez, President & CEO, Diversity Training Group (DTG) Mauricio Velásquez is the President and CEO of The Diversity Training Group (DTG) in Herndon, VA. Mauricio serves as a Diversity and Inclusion strategy consultant, trainer, sexual harassment prevention trainer, executive coach, mentoring trainer, and expert witness. DTG s clients include small and large law firms, general counsels, and other professional service firms as well as public and private organizations. A partial list includes Jackson Lewis, Jones Walker, Nixon Peabody, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, Bryan Cave, Jennings, Strouss & Salmon, Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus, Pillsbury, Constangy Brooks and Smith, Arent Fox, Baker Botts, and KPMG to name a few. IPMA, LMA, other ALA chapters, and many bar associations are clients. CLOSING SPEAKER: Dean L. Silverberg, Attorney, Epstein Becker Green Dean L. Silverberg is a Member of the firm Epstein Becker Green in the Labor and Employment practice, in the firm s New York office. He practices both public and private-sector labor and employment law, and is actively involved in employment and workplace tort litigation, labor arbitration, collective bargaining negotiations, wage and hour audits, and human resource consultation and management. As Head of the firm s China Initiative, Mr. Silverberg travels to China to meet with executives of the parent companies of Chinese subsidiaries he represents in America, confers with representatives of the Chinese government and trade organizations, and presents seminars to Chinese businesses seeking to operate or invest in the United States. He works closely with Chinese businesses in the United States in various industry sectors to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Silverberg was deputy counsel to Mayor Edward I. Koch of New York City. He served as an advisor to the Mayor s Office in connection with public-sector labor relations, personnel management, and civil service administration from 1983 through He was appointed in 1983 as a city alternate member of the New York City Board of Collective Bargaining. After Mr. Silverberg joined Epstein Becker & Green, Mayor Koch appointed him a full city member of the Board of Collective Bargaining, and he served in that capacity through Mr. Silverberg co-authored the Employer s Guide to Military Leave Compliance, published by Thompson Publishing Group. Mr. Silverberg frequently writes and lectures on a range of employment law topics including employment and workplace tort litigation, worker classification matters, human resource consultation and management, and military leave compliance.
