1 CAPITAL AREA HUMAN RESOURCE ASSOCIATION February 2018 Message from the President Happy February, CAHRA Friends! When I told my 7 year old daughter, Hazel, that I was going to be President of a group I was involved in, she immediately thought I was going to be President of the United States. Needless to say, she was VERY impressed and more excited than words could say. This was also the same child that told all of her friends and teachers that I planned and led the entire SHRM VLS Summit when I traveled to D.C. back in November. She LOVES a good story and she LOVES to embellish things just a little bit. I think she may get that from me. A few things I LOVE about February are Valentine s Day and Black History Month! This is such a great opportunity for us to show our love for our members and how much we value and appreciate diversity within our organization. Thank you for all that YOU do and all that YOU bring to this chapter to make it unique and special. We are who we are because of YOU. Join us for our February meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7 th for some fun giveaways! We will have speakers from Phelps Dunbar speaking on Exploring the #MeToo Movement: What Every Employer Should Understand About Workplace Harassment. We anticipate this being an excellent lunch & learn session. We will be announcing the Committee Chairs at February s meeting. If you are looking for a way to get more involved in CAHRA, I would suggest finding a committee that interests you. We can always use additional resources, and this is a great way to network and meet members you may not interact with on a regular basis. Lindsey Hoskinson, SHRM-CP, PHR
