1 Co-op Student Position Staffing Process Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Job Opportunity Expected Starting Date: Various terms starting in January 2017 Term of Employment: Various co-op terms for either 4 or 8 month terms Position: Student positions in the Audit Division and Collections & Verification Branch Remuneration: $ per hour (2014 rates) Number of Positions: 7 Full-time positions (37.5 hours/week) Location: Prince George, BC Final date for receipt of applications: November 4, :00pm Pacific Standard Time Are you a dependable individual that can learn quickly? Who Can Apply (Source of Candidates) Open to students currently enrolled in second year studies and above as a full-time* Co-op student at the University of Northern British Columbia. For positons in the Audit Division, preference may be given to students currently enrolled full-time in the Business Administration / Commerce co-op programs. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens. Please indicate your citizenship status on your application. *Co-op students enrolled in studies on a part-time basis due to a disability are also eligible to apply. 3 The rate of pay is generally based on a student's current academic level and may be increased if a student meets certain criteria. How to Apply Individuals interested in this co-op opportunity must provide the following by the closing date and time: 1. You must apply through your co-op career centre and include a cover letter and resume. Your resume must include the name, daytime phone number(s) and address of a minimum of two references, preferably work-related. You may also provide other types of references related to academic or volunteer activities. 2. Your current (unofficial) transcript(s) showing how you meet the education criteria. 3. In your cover letter, please describe how you meet the education and experience criteria stated below (under Staffing Requirements - Screening for Prerequisites). Your submission should be no more than 1 letter size page. 4. Your cover letter should also describe your current program of study, including your current academic year and details of any other post-secondary education you may have, and your citizenship. Job Description and Duties For this process, the CRA is accepting applications from students to fill two different positions: 1) The Fraser Valley and Northern Tax Services Office, Collections & Verification Branch, located in the Prince George, BC office. 2) The Fraser Valley and Northern Tax Services Office, Audit Division located in the Prince George, BC office. The co-op terms will be for either 4 or 8 month co-op terms, commencing in January Audit job duties may include the following: Audits/examines taxpayers returns, books, records, taxpayer requests, and supporting documents to confirm and enforce compliance with the statutes administered by the CRA. Prepares working papers, letters and reports to support work completed. 3

4 Discusses with taxpayers and/or their representatives technical and contentious issues, proposed (re)assessments, and recommendations regarding penalties and consideration of waiving of interest. Reviews documents and researches legislation, jurisprudence, publications and policies. Plans, organizes and prioritizes own workload in order to ensure completion of assigned work within established timeframes and, thereby contribute to the achievement of division s goals and objectives. Collections & Verification Branch job duties may include the following: Administration and collection of outstanding amounts for all account types, promotion and enforcement of compliance relating to information slips and outstanding returns, and the resolution of enquiries from taxpayers, their representatives, or employees of the CRA. Staffing Requirements Screening for Prerequisites Education For Collections & Verification Branch positions (essential): Applicants must be enrolled in full time* studies in a University of Northern British Columbia Co-op Program and returning to studies or be in the final year of their academic study. For Audit positions (essential): Applicants must be enrolled in full time* studies in University of Northern British Columbia Business Administration / Commerce Co-op Programs and returning to studies or be in the final year of their academic study. Applicants must also have successfully completed Introductory Accounting and Intermediate Accounting I and II. The acceptability of courses is determined by comparing the courses taken by a candidate to the courses on the transfer credit or prerequisite studies lists issued by the CPA. Candidates will be asked to provide transcripts to prove they meet this essential education staffing requirement. *Students enrolled in studies on a part-time basis due to a disability are also eligible to apply. 5 Candidates will be asked to provide proof of their status as a student while working for CRA. Experience Experience working in a client service environment, providing service, assistance and information to internal or external clients. This experience is essential for Collections & Verification Branch positions and an asset for Audit positions. Staffing Requirements -- Assessment The following asset qualifications may be assessed using a locally developed tool (e.g., written exam, interview and/or reference check). If invoked, a minimum pass mark of 60% is required. These results are not portable to other staffing processes. Assessment results may be used to select candidates for appointment. Effective Interpersonal Skills Pass mark 60% Assessment Method: Interview Effective Oral and Written Communication Skills Pass mark 60% Assessment Method: Interview/Written Document Ability to Analyze and Make Decisions Pass mark 60% Assessment Method: Interview Action Orientation Pass mark 60% Assessment Method: Interview Dependability Pass mark 60% Assessment Method: Reference Check Assessments, if scheduled, will commence November 14, 2016 through to the week ending November 25, 2016; please be available for these weeks. Additional Essential Staffing Requirements: Performance confirmation applicants must be meeting current expectations.
