6 Talent is a naturally recurring pattern of thought, feeling or behavior that can be productively applied Examples of talent include Effortlessly and instinctively starting conversations Thinking in an orderly or timely manner Being able to easily influence others Seeing patterns in data Consistently having a positive outlook on life

9 How I was introduced to CliftonStrengths and became a coach Creation of Organizational Improvement Office at KUMC in 2012 My internal coaching practice A variety of individuals Staff and students in three schools SOM, SON, SHP MDs, PhDs, support staff and students Growth of my coaching practice From 1 individual July 1, 2015 to 350+ individuals and 40 teams July 1, 2017

13 CSF team sessions help teams understand How each person can uniquely contribute to accomplishing team goals How team members can develop powerful and complementary partnerships How to leverage each persons natural talents How to build support systems to manage areas of lesser talent CSF gives teams A common neutral language to discuss talents Greater collaboration and productivity The potential to achieve performance excellence

15 Strategic planning can be incorporated into the CSF team sessions At the end of Step 6 or in Step 7 and beyond, I introduce an activity that helps teams Define themselves Answer the question What are we most excited about accomplishing as a team? Turn that answer into the team s Success Statement Understand their roles in support of that Success Statement This helps them align, prioritize and assign goals

16 In early 2016, OIO was charged with facilitating the new institutional Strategic Planning Process Participants in the workgroups were provided access codes and coaching as a thank you We used a modified team coaching approach with the workgroups and combined it with our Baldrige-based strategic planning facilitation process In August 2017, we will use the same approach combining CSF and our Baldrige-based strategic planning facilitation process with our Diversity & Inclusion Cabinet
