(2) The representative of the organization <Please write the name and position of the representative> Name: Hj Md Khairi bin Selamat Position: Principal Director (3) Purposes and roles of your organization a) Historical background of the organization The inception of LUAS was the result of the directive of the Cabinet Ministers Meeting in July 1997 in which the Ministry of Agriculture and thereafter, the Selangor State Government was requested to consider a proposal to establish an agency to manage the river and water resources in an integrated manner by applying the Selangor River as a pioneer project and the Thames River in the United Kingdom as the model for its implementation. Lembaga Urus Air Selangor / Selangor Waters Management Authority or its acronym, LUAS/SWMA is a one-stop agency for the management of water resources, river basin, water bodies, ground water and coastal waters in the State of Selangor. It was established under the Selangor Waters Management Authority Enactment 1999 pursuant to the approval of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on 9 April LUAS was officially launched on 18 September 1999 by the former Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Dato Seri (Dr) Hj Abu Hassan bin Hj Omar who is also the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of SWMA.
2 The Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage of Selangor, Ir. Hj Rahmat bin Hj Mohd Sharif, was appointed as the Director of SWMA with effect from 15 September LUAS began its operation officially from 1 August 2000 with nucleus staff comprising of 13 personnel including the Director. b) Purposes and roles of the organization I. To ensure the water resources and environmental surrounding is in a manageable and sustainable condition, in order to support the socio-economic development of the progressive State. II. To undertake the function of planning, research, facilitator, coordinator, operation, enforcement, supervision in the development of the integrated management of water resources and environment. III. To provide an environment that is conducive for public and private sector participation in the development, utilization and management of water resources and environmental surroundings taking into consideration the interests of the public and the State Government. IV. To create the public awareness and the participation of the public on the importance of water resources and in caring and enhancing the quality of water. (4) Outline of the organization 1) Number of staff Up to 31 March 2008, the total staffs which include administrative, technical and supporting staff are 52. 2) Amount of the annual budget in 2007 Operation budget: RM 3 million (USD $937,500.00) Charges and fee collection: RM 2.4 million (USD $750,000.00) 3) Organizational chart <Please attach the organization chart here> 4) Ongoing projects <Please write about the ongoing projects>

Raw Water Abstraction Licensing. V. Alteration Activities Written Permission (alteration activities including jetties, bridges, utilities, crossings, etc). VI. Preparation of river basin and water resources management plan. VII. Gazettement of alternative water resources area. VIII. Preparation of Regulations: a. Inland Navigation Regulations; b. Effluent Discharges Regulations; c. Raw Water Abstraction Regulations; d. River Diversion for Hydropower Regulations; and e. Alteration Activities Regulations. IX. Continuous monitoring and enforcement for water resources pollution through River Basin Management Committee and River Basin Task Force.
