1 Establishing and Operating an Assessment Centre Unit
2 An assessment centre unit offers a range of assessment solutions that are tailored to specific contexts usually selection or development. The various assessment solutions are linked to a defined competency framework. Assessment and development centres produce risk intelligence that informs decision-making and trigger talent development processes.

4 Important Questions Business Case Why do we want to establish the unit? What needs do we want to satisfy? What do we want to achieve? In which contexts will the unit mainly deliver services? What will be the benefits to the organisation? Where does the initiative fit? What are the likely cost implications? What are the projected returns on our investment? Operating Model Funding Model Are we going to do it ourselves (in-source), or are we going to partner with an expert in the field? Who will be involved? Who will be doing what? How shall we build internal capacity over time? How are we going to fund the cost of the unit? Who will be paying for what? Will there be a central budget?
5 Important Questions Infrastructure What are the envisaged infrastructure requirements? Are we going to have a static platform (single, fixed location), or will we be using multiple venues locations (as the need arises)? Organisational Support How are we going to market the services of the unit? How shall we encourage use thereof? Strategic Partner Risks Who are we going to partner with? Does our partner-of-choice have a track record in assessment (various contexts)? How are we going to manage the interface with our strategic partner? What do we expect from our strategic partner? What are the things that could cause this initiative to fail? What should we be doing to mitigate risk?
