6 Practical Hiring Principals * When in doubt don t hire! Keep looking! * Hire people smarter than yourself. * When it s time for a personnel change; act! * Put your best people on your biggest opportunities, not on your biggest problems.
7 During the Interview * Develop a list of common interview questions (coming up!) * Role play scenarios in an interview * Group interviews * Background checks * Backdoor references (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogger.com, etc.)
8 Hiring: Questions You Should Ask Do ask questions that will help you gauge if their work, attitude and personality will mesh with your company. 1. What is your desired salary? 2. List three things you love about your current/previous job and why. 3. List three things you disliked about your current/previous job and why. 4. List three words you would use to describe yourself and why. 5. Where do you see yourself in 3 years? How about 5 years? 6. Outside of work, what are your interests? 7. Please tell me about one of your proudest moments...

Create dynamic goals, because they will change slightly over time Each year we go on a retreat, and each person comes up with a professional goal and shares with the group
17 Giving Back * Sponsor charity events * Get Employees Involved (lots of large companies offer yearly allowance for volunteering) * Volunteer Your Time, not just $$$! * Be known for giving back * Gets your brand out there * Makes you trustworthy to the public * Generate more customers in the long run * Feel good!
