8 Make a Better You Throughout our lives we take steps to be better prepared: studying for the test, packing for vacation, writing a grocery list, and checking the weather before we leave. By taking these steps, we are setting ourselves up for success. One area of our lives we often fail to prepare for is the challenge and difficulty of stressful situations. If we take the time to prepare for these situations and better ourselves, we will be able to successfully manage these challenges. We must take the time to invest in ourselves and become more resilient and self-aware. This session will focus on helping you develop the skills to cope with the stresses of life. To Midlife and Beyond! Navigating Life s Transitions Use your strengths to navigate mid and later life transitions. Learn about four important transitions: Children moving out of the home, caring for aging parents, contemplating retirement and retiring. This session will examine strengths that can be drawn on to move through these transitions with awareness and confidence. The Master Juggler: Work Life Balance Finding balance in our life is key to increasing our quality of life. While maintaining a full-schedule of work obligations and personal fulfillment opportunities, we sometimes come up short on time. Prioritizing tasks and understanding the roles we play each day is the goal of this session. Participants will walk out with a better understanding of how to achieve balance in their life. Stress Compassion Fatigue Caring too much hurts. Whether you are a caregiver at home or your work requires caring for others, this session will describe symptoms of compassion fatigue. The session will also highlight individual and systemic practices that can prevent or decrease it. Navigating Cumulative Stress Cumulative stress can wear down a person both physically and mentally, reducing our resiliency to overcome the multiple stressors in our life. This session will engage participants in identifying cumulative stress in their own lives, responses we engage in and options to cope with cumulative stress. When the Holidays Don t Feel So Jolly There is a lot of pressure to be jolly, spend money, see family, and buy presents around the holidays, but sometimes we instead feel tired, resentful, stressed or even depressed. This session will provide strategies for navigating the holidays along with managing your own and other s expectations. Information can also be provided on the topic of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Workplace Career Development NEW! We ll explore how to access your individual interests and values to start you on the path to career development in terms of personal and professional satisfaction and even enjoyment! Whether you are just starting out or approaching retirement, you will find this session to be stimulating and motivating. 8 P a g e

9 Civility in the Workplace The purpose of this session is to urge all employees to communicate respectfully. This is not a campaign to end disagreements but rather an effort to improve workplace discourse by reminding ourselves of the very basic principles of respect and civility. By elevating our level of communication and avoiding personal attacks and general stubbornness, we can avoid unhealthy debate. This will lead to a more effective, healthier and productive workplace, and help maintain our sense of community by increasing civic participation. We are not just targeting those who are uncivil, but those who allow uncivilized behavior to happen. Our key message is to promote nine simple tools for practicing civility, taken from P. M. Forni's book, Choosing Civility. Dealing with an Angry Public NEW! This session focuses on when to act, when to react and then when to ask for help! Dealing with the public can be challenging. The majority of people we deal with are wonderful, but that small percentage that display anger and aggression can really cause us to lose our cool. This is an interactive session that lets participants explore difficult customer engagement and develop skills to better handle it. Facing the Challenges of Change This session will provide opportunities for participants to learn the skills for coping with organizational change and stress. The session includes an overview of the three phases of change and skills discussed include: managing perspectives and attitudes; understanding and managing the actual changes that are occurring; setting realistic expectations; stress management; improving communication and listening skills. Resolving Conflict Cooperatively and Effectively This session focuses on using conflict in a positive way by seeking solutions to conflict rather than finding fault or by escalating the conflict. Communication skills, our attitudes and how we deal with anger are all elements of successful conflict resolution that are discussed in this session. This is an interactive session that lets participants explore conflict resolution scenarios in small group discussions to help internalize the skills and attitudes discussed. Strengths Finder: Build on What is Good! NEW! This session uses the Strengths Finder Assessment tool to energize you in your personal and/or career development. Have you ever wondered what is it that I bring to this workplace or what am I good at? This session introduces you to your strengths and helps you explore ways to use those strengths toward personal wellness and development. Leadership Dealing with Difficult Behavior If it were only that easy! As leaders, we are challenged to deal with a wide variety of employees and create a healthy and productive workplace. This session will provide concrete techniques and strategies for dealing with difficult behavior ranging from merely annoying to outright threatening. Opportunities will be made available for practicing the skills and strategies discussed. (2 hours) The Challenges of Managing Conflict Conflict is a given in the workplace. This session identifies the most common reasons for conflict, its impact and the role of management in addressing conflict. The goal is to have a repertoire of conflict management skills, including mediation, performance management and an agreed upon process with staff. (2 hours) 9 P a g e

11 LEADERSHIP SERVICES EXECUTIVE COACHING Does your Executive Director need guidance on relating with the board? Are you looking to provide support and job enhancement for one of your best leaders? Are you struggling with a leader that lacks the motivation or tools to perform to their capacity? We provide individual professional development services for leaders in collaboration with the individual s manager. Example The Division leader of a large government entity had fallen back into old patterns and behaviors. She was highly skilled in many ways and the organization wanted to retain her as a leader. Although she had tried executive coaching previously, it just didn't seem to take and her boss wanted to see improvement. Mainly, she was avoiding dealing with staff performance issues and it was impacting work distribution amongst the team and creating team discord. The Sand Creek Organizational Development Consultant met individually with the leader (coaching participant) to discuss the process, the confidentiality of their conversations and what will be shared back with the identified stakeholders. The identified goals were highlighted in a coaching plan that was updated after each coaching session. The coaching plan included assignments and recommended readings and was shared with both the coaching participant and their Supervisor. After five coaching sessions over a four month period there was significant improvement in the leader's comfort level and ability to address both performance and behavioral issues. In addition, they also worked with the Sand Creek OD Consultant to create a team agreement which allowed the whole team to outline their expectations going forward in an effort to create a more respectful work setting within their workgroup. PERFORMANCE COACHING Is there an employees that is critical to your organization s success that is currently faced with a challenge? Is there a technology guru on staff that finds it challenging interacting with her group? Through feedback assessments, leadership workshops, and one-on-one coaching sessions, coaching enhances goal attainment, increases resilience and workplace well-being, increases self-confidence and personal insight, builds management skills and helps the employee deal with organizational change.
