1 Jobs Available in Cranberry Area The following reports examine the labor market in the area from three different perspectives jobs by industry, jobs by occupations, and jobs by education required. The analysis is based on the number of jobs added or lost from 2004 to The time period covers four full calendar years, 16 quarters of data. Projections are calculated for the decade of Jobs by Industry The first set of tables and charts show area jobs available by industry. The industries are presented on two levels (using the North American Industrial Classification System - NAICS): 2-digit NAICS code level (broad categories) and 3-digit NAICS code level (detailed categories). Currently the strongest industries in the area are: Retail Trade, Accommodation and Food Services, and Wholesale Trade. Jobs by Occupations The second set of tables and charts show area jobs available by occupational clusters. The occupations are presented on two levels (using the Standard Occupational Classification - SOC): 2-digit SOC code level (broad categories) and 6-digit SOC code level (the most detailed categories). Currently the strongest occupations in the area are: Sales occupations, Office and Administrative occupations, Food preparation and serving related occupations. Jobs by Education The third chart shows area jobs available by educational attainment. Currently most of the jobs require short-term or moderate-term on-the-jobtraining. Data Source 2007 Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc. (EMSI) combining data from the US Department of Labor (DOL), the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and O*Net (occupational network database). 11 Commuting Patterns in the Cranberry Area Residents and Incoming Workers The following reports examine commuting patterns and employment characteristics of the area s residents and incoming workforce. Commute Shed Commute shed is a geographic area showing where workers who live within a selected area are employed. Labor Shed Labor shed is a geographic area showing where workers who work within a selected area reside. Area Profile Report The report compares the following characteristics of labor and commute sheds: Jobs by Worker Age - showing three age breakout categories from the total Baseline Count of Jobs: 30 or younger, y., and 55 or older. Jobs by Earnings Paid showing three earnings breakout categories from the total Baseline Count of Jobs: $1200/mo. or less, $ /mo., and more than $3400/mo. Jobs by Industry Type (2-digit NAICS) - showing 20 industry breakout categories from the total Baseline Count of Jobs. The categories are all 2-digit NAICS codes, otherwise known as industry sectors. Employment Location/Residency Location The report compares commuting origins of area workers and destinations of area residents: Job Counts in Cities/Towns and Counties Where Residents are Employed showing the top 10 cities/towns and counties that are the workplaces for residents in the selected geographic area and time period. "All Other Locations" covers cities/towns and counties not included in the top 10. 12 Commuting Patterns of Cranberry Workers Sample data analysis The following reports examine commuting patterns of employees of selected Cranberry-based companies. Seven local companies (representing manufacturing, health care, accommodation, construction and local government industry clusters) contributed commuting data of their employees (ZIP code of residency and employment location). Using GIS technology, the data were displayed in map formats to represent the spatial relation between workers residency and employment locations. Basic Statistics Seven Cranberry-based companies participated: Hyatt, Manheim, Marriott, MSA, Traco, UPMC, and Cranberry Township. Trip origins for a total of 2,760 commuters were available. Pay levels for a total of 688 commuters were available.
