8 SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHY DO THE COURSE THROUGH THE E.D.A.A.? It is the only equine dental course that has government recognition and provides students with full time, practical training across all sectors of the horse industry. HOW LONG IS THE COURSE? It takes 12 to 15 months to complete. The Course is FULL TIME and students must be able to travel interstate for periods of time to complete supervised work place experience with different demonstrators in varying workplace situations. WHAT DOES THE COURSE ENTAIL? The course consists of 5 weeks formal (in class) schooling and 230 days on the job (practical) training. WHO ARE YOU LEARNING WITH? Training is provided by qualified, accredited and insured Dental Technicians throughout Australia. HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE TRAINED EACH YEAR? E.D.A.A. trains 2-3 students per year. WHY SO FEW? Due to the one-on-one personal delivery E.D.A.A. has found from experience that this is the best way to deliver the course. By the time each student qualifies it is estimated that they have worked on over 3000 horses.
9 HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE COURSE? Contact the EDAA Office on +61 (0) or visit WHY THE E.D.A.A.? Established in 1997, the Equine Dental Association of Australia (EDAA) is a notfor-profit association that helps deliver ACM40512, which is the only Nationally recognised training program for Equine Dental Technicians in Australia. The greatest asset of the Equine Dental Association is our members who help provide the vocational training for this unique profession. Their skills and horsemanship in the delivery of humane dental care is renowned World Wide. EDAA - Recognised, Qualified, Accredited and Insured Equine Dental Technicians who are able to offer a quality service with minimum stress to your horse without the need for unnecessary sedation.
10 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM A RECENT STUDENT WITH ALL THE EQUINE DENTIST COURSES WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE E.D.A.A. COURSE? I researched all the options and found that the E.D.A.A. has the only government recognised course and students that qualified through the E.D.A.A had a thorough understanding of equine dentistry and all made a full time living doing horses teeth. WHAT DO YOU FIND THE BEST PART OF THE COURSE? The one-on-one training allows me maximum supervised practical experience and that means I get the best value for time and money. I also get to work on an amazing cross section of horses giving me vital experience in all equine disciplines. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE FROM THE COURSE? I hope to gain full time employment as a professional equine dental service provider with no unnecessary sedation and minimal restraint for each horse. WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE FOR SOMEONE WANTING TO BECOME AN EQUINE DENTIST? My main advice would be - do your research. Don t be afraid to ask questions like - Is the qualification government recognised? Does the Association offer insurance? Does the Association work within existing law and refer specialist cases to primary health care providers (Veterinarians)? How many people that qualify make a full time living? What sort of hands on experience do I get for my money? Will I be able to provide a service that does not use unnecessary sedation and minimal restraint? Does the Association have a regulated Complaints Resolution Process? Do I have a network of full time dentists for ongoing backup? Does the Association provide ongoing professional development? HOW DO I APPLY? Contact the EDAA Office on +61 (0) (or for more information.2
