5 Introduction The bulk bin location system provides a means of assigning items to bulk locations. Each item can be assigned a primary bin location and up to five additional bin locations in each active warehouse. The bulk bin locations are stored in the Item Warehouse record (IM/MAI, 2nd screen). Quantities in bulk bin locations are purely commentary and are not affected by shipping and receiving transactions. Bulk bin locations should be created using a consistent numbering scheme. All primary bin locations should contain the same number of characters (up to eight) and all other bulk bin locations should contain the same number of characters (up to four). This is important when sorting by bin location on reports, pick lists, etc. The system assumes all locations are the same number of characters, so all blanks are considered to be zeros. For example, these locations would be sorted in the following order: B1, B150, B2, B222 B3. In your warehouse the correct order of these locations might be B1, B2, B3, B150, B222, but the system reads these numbers as B100, B200, B300, B150, B222, and sorts them accordingly. The System file can be flagged (in SYS/OPS) to print items in bulk bin location sequence on pick lists. If this option is selected, the primary bin location is used for sorting. All bulk bin locations and quantities print in the warehouse section of the pick lists. If bulk bin locations are created to reflect the layout of the warehouse, this option produces pick lists printed in a sequence that allows orders to be picked in warehouse location order. To assign Tag records to specific locations, use the Tagging System and stock locations. If you plan to use FIFO committing, using stock locations, the wild card option can be used. See the Tagging System Reference Manual in Volume 2 for detailed information. FPD/202 BL - 5
6 BULK BIN MAINTENANCE (BL/MAI) Bulk Bin Maintenance (BL/MAI) Use this program to enter and edit bulk bin locations. You can also enter and edit bulk bin locations through Inventory Maintenance (IM/MAI), Branch Warehouse Maintenance (IM/BRM), and Quick Maintenance (BL/QM). Bulk bin locations should be created using a consistent numbering scheme. All primary bin locations should contain the same number of characters (up to eight) and all other bulk bin locations should contain the same number of characters (up to four). Entry/Inquiry Screen Field Explanation Whse Item Enter the warehouse number in which the bulk bins are located. To exit, leave blank and press SKIP. You can pull up an item by short name or item number. If you are unsure of the exact part number or part name, enter only the first few letters or numbers and use the function keys to scroll through the list of existing part numbers/names. Refer to the bottom of the screen for assistance in using the functions keys. BL - 6 FPD/202
7 BULK BIN MAINTENANCE (BL/MAI) Error Messages: INVALID PART NUMBER or FUNCTION - SKIP to continue Either an invalid item number was entered, or the wrong function key was pressed. Press SKIP to acknowledge the message and begin again. Whse Not in Use The item specified is not active in the warehouse specified. Bulk bin locations cannot be created for this item in this warehouse. ENTER Field No. To Change Enter the line number of the field you wish to add/change. To move back to the Item field, leave blank and press SKIP. 01 Primary Bin Enter the primary bulk bin location, where this item can be found. The location can be identified by a name or a number. Bulk Location Number of Bulk Containers These fields are displayed five times as 02 through 06. Each field allows a maximum of four characters to be entered. However, please keep in mind that the two fields are combined to create the entire location name. For this reason we recommend that you always enter the same number of characters in each field. For example, if AA is entered as the Bulk Location and 100 is entered as the Number of Bulk Containers, the bulk location will appear as AA100 in Warehouse Maintenance (IM/MAI, 2nd screen). The following fields are updated by the system and cannot be modified. The information comes from IM/MAI. On Hand The total on hand quantity (rework and warehouse stock) in the specified warehouse. Bulk Qty The bulk quantity. Wgt U/M The weight per unit of measure. The unit of measure. FPD/202 BL - 7
