4 Nuclear Refurbishment Refurbishment of CANDU reactors is an aspect of its design and a requirement during its operational service life. Refurbishment will allow CANDU units to continue operating for an additional ~30 years. Definition phase of work: Including environmental and safety approvals, engineering studies, infrastructure development, and integrated project planning. Implementation phase of work: EPC including detailed design, return to service, and commissioning. Lead-out, approach to critical, and start-up. 4
