1 Press Release Etihad Rail Signs MoU with Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi, UAE, 25 November, 2012: Waste management will soon enter a new era in Abu Dhabi as Etihad Rail the master developer and operator of the UAE s national railway network today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Center of Waste Management Abu Dhabi (CWM). The agreement will see CWM use the Etihad Rail network as a vital component in its future sustainable waste transport system, integrating the network into its plans to convert waste into energy and using Etihad Rail s custom-made rail concepts to centralise its services and facilities. The use of rail in waste management systems is a strategic part of the infrastructure of many major cities worldwide. The MoU, which was signed by H.E. Dr. Nasser Saif Al-Mansoori, CEO of Etihad Rail, and H.E Mohamed Rashid Al Hameli General Manager of the Center of Waste Management Abu Dhabi, demonstrates the commitment of both CWM and Etihad Rail to implement the UAE government s vision to build a greener and more sustainable future. The use of the Etihad Rail network will drastically reduce CWM s transport requirements by trucks, thereby lowering carbon emissions. Rail also offers a more cost-effective transport solution. Etihad Rail s customised services for CWM will further provide a safer and more efficient mode of transport, facilitating the centralisation of landfills into a single site, linking the site to transfer stations located throughout the Emirate and to the planned CWM plant that will be used to convert waste into energy. Center of Waste Management Abu Dhabi was established in 2008 as the lead agency responsible for controlling and coordinating waste management activities in the Emirate. Through the diversion of waste from landfill, increased segregation of recyclables from waste

2 collections, and the development of new waste treatment and disposal facilities, CWM is establishing a full cycle integrated waste management system in Abu Dhabi. Commenting on the MoU, H.E. Dr. Nasser Saif Al-Mansoori, CEO of Etihad Rail, said: Etihad Rail aims to offer custom-made solutions to its customers, and with a particular focus on efficiency and the environment. Abu Dhabi is developing into a world-class city that has always looked to international standards as it develops. It is globally recognised that a sustainable, environmentally responsible society requires an efficient and environmentally-friendly method to manage waste, with major cities such as London, New York and Sydney using rail as an essential part of their waste management infrastructure. Etihad Rail trains will help facilitate this for CWM, and we are delighted to be working closely with them towards the vision of a greener and more sustainable future. Signing this agreement today with Etihad Rail comes to solidify our efforts to achieve an effective collaboration with our strategic partners in the aim of creating sustainable programs for managing and recycling of waste, leading to social and environmental benefits. As part of Etihad Rail s commitment to preserving the environment, a minimum of 40% of the company s aggregates are of recycled construction and demolition waste a practice that is compliant with CWM s initiatives. The signing with CWM follows Etihad Rail s recent MoU signing with Dubai-based logistics company GSL. HOYER Global Transport and DHL have also signed MoUs with Etihad Rail, with HOYER planning to use the railway for the transport of liquid bulk, and DHL using the railway network to meet its customers growing logistical needs. Etihad Rail has also signed agreements

3 with other customers across a range of industries including Al Dahra, Emirates Steel, Arkan, Etisalat and du. Upon completion, the Etihad Rail network which will cater to both freight and passengers will extend an estimated 1,200 km across the Emirates.It will connect urban and remote communities, facilitate trade, open up communication channels and foster economic development. The network will also form a vital part of the GCC Railway Network linking the UAE to Saudi Arabia via Ghweifat in the west and Oman via Al Ain in the east. Construction work on Stage One, which links Shah and Habshan to Ruwais, is wellunderway, and the tendering process is already in progress for Stage Two, which will connect the railway to Mussafah, to the Gulf ports (Khalifa and Jebel Ali Ports) and the Saudi and Omani borders. - Ends - Notes to the editors: About Etihad Rail Etihad Rail was established in June 2009 under Federal Law no. 2, with a mandate to manage the development, construction and operation of the UAE s national freight and passenger railway network. Etihad Rail has recently announced a number of contract awards for Stage One of the rail network including: The Civil & Track Works contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Italy s Saipem, Tecnimont and UAE-based Dodsal Engineering and Construction The Project Management Consultant (PMC) contract which was awarded to joint venture Parsons-Aecom PCM Strescon Ventures was awarded the contract for the provision of railway sleepers. The Indian-based company will be responsible for the provision of railway sleepers in a purpose-built sleeper manufacturing facility at our rail head
