1 The Seven Functions of Marketing Power Point Students will use a PowerPoint to demonstrate their acquired knowledge of the seven functions of marketing through classroom discussion research activities. Students will first decide on a product they are going to sell their peers (MSMSS7-6: Utilize elements of the marketing functions to develop a new product.). An introduction slide will be followed by 7 additional slides with each slide representing a function of marketing: Slide 1 Introduction The introduction slide will consist of the product name a brief description of the item. The slide must have a price for the item along with a sketch of the product or an actual/similar picture. Slide 2 Finance Function The finance function slide should describe how the entrepreneur (the student) will get the money to start making designing their product. The student should also research the possible cost to make their item have this represented on this slide. Slide 3 Information Management Function The management slide should discuss show how the design of the product (color, size, need, etc) was decided through data collection. At least two different means of data collection should be represented on this slide with one of those being in graph form. Slide 4 Distribution Function The distribution slide will demonstrate how the product will be shipped to its selling locations. Students will need to decide on a distribution/manufacturing center location (town state). The
2 Slide 5 Product Management The product management slide should have discussion of at least 5 possible ways to make the original product better. These 5 ways should be actual improvements to the product not in pricing or advertising as these two fall into other categories. The five different ways of improvement should be shown using a bullet system along with an image of the product or an image showing the improvements. Slide 6 Pricing Function The pricing slide should once again mention the cost of making the product as it did in slide 2. Using the price from slide 1, discuss show what the profit will be using the profit formula (Price cost = profit). How much money would be made if you sold 150,000 items? The student will also need to discuss the reason for reducing or increasing the price of the product. Slide 7 Promotion Function The promotion slide should show at least two different ways in which the product will be promoted (advertisements, give aways, additions to other products, etc.). There also should be two locations for the promotion or more (TV, Internet, Sporting Event, product demonstrations, etc.) Slide 8 Selling Function The selling function slide should demonstrate the different methods you will use to collect from your customers that have bought your item regarding quality, price performance, etc. The communication techniques used should include (but not limited to) customer service, sales s, e- commerce, use of the telephone product demonstrations. All of these methods help to gather customer comments to improve your product, or adjust your price.
3 Slide requirements Rubric: The slides must have the same background. The introduction slide is an exception. The background on this slide can be different, but it must product if it is. All slides must have animation (objects or text on the slide moves) transitions (the slide itself changes as it goes to the next slide) All slides must have images relating to the slide.
