16 UCL Security: Here for you, your safety and protection. Thefts are very low at UCL but they can occur. The 3 most reported stolen items at UCL are: Phones Laptops Bicycles

17 Phone use Be aware of your surroundings when using your phone. Try to avoid using your phone in public and if you do, keep it close to you and away from the road. Be vigilant. Look out for bikes and mopeds. Some will go on the pavement. Avoid taking your phone out when you leave transport hubs Have your lock on so no one can get into it straight away. Register your phone with immobilse:

18 Prevention of bike thefts Ensure you secure your bike properly: using two locks, for example a D lock and a cable lock. Use the official bike racks across the campus and make sure it does not manoeuvre. Get your bike security marked: BikeRegister.com

19 Security Tips on Campus Keep your valuables with you at all times. Always trust your gut instinct. If you see anything or anyone suspicious or get a bad feeling, tell someone. Report it to campus security. Know your way around the campus. Use a map of where you are studying and surrounding areas. If you are unsure of something, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here to help you. UCL has 24/7 Security cover. The office is in Foster Court, Malet Place.

20 Tailgating Please be mindful of anyone following you through the door at University and at your accommodation. By allowing someone to follow you in, you are not only putting yourself at risk but also of your neighbours, fellow students, colleagues and your property. If you can, ask who they are. If you feel uncomfortable doing so, tell someone. This could be one of our security officers or a warden at the accommodation.

21 Safety in London Stay alert at all times and avoid using headphones when walking. Wear your bag over your shoulder and make sure it is closed. When using a cash point in London, check no one is close to you and looking over your shoulder and that the ATM has not been tampered with. Cover the keypad so that no one else can see your pin number. Try to travel back with friends and always use a licensed cab. If you walk back, stick to well lit and main roads. You can link it to your railcard if you have one to get a 34% discount on off-peak pay as you go fares, off-peak daily caps and National Rail Services
