2. Review of Anti- trust Compliance Policy (Competition Act) Rochefort Joël Rochefort reviewed the anti- trust/competition act statement that was also included in the committee materials. All were asked to comply with the requirements during the meeting. COMPETITION ACT STATEMENT The Canadian Precast / Prestressed Concrete Institute assigns the highest priority to full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the Competition Act, and it is vital that this meeting be conducted in a manner consistent with that policy. If, at any time during the course of the meeting, CPCI staff believe that a sensitive topic under the act is being discussed, or is about to be discussed, they will so advise the meeting and halt further discussion. As attendees at this meeting, you should likewise not hesitate to voice any concerns you may have in this regard. It is important to bear in mind that those in attendance at this meeting may work for your employer s competitor. Any discussion of commercial matters with one s competitors may create the appearance of a Competition Act violation, even though there is none. This applies in particular to discussions of pricing of input material, final products, and discussions of restricting competition. Therefore, such discussions should be avoided at all times before, during, and after the meeting. 3. Review and Approval of Minutes of January 23 rd, 2014 Teleconference Phillips MOTION: Andrew LeVatte moved and Peter Schuster seconded to accept the minutes of the summer marketing meeting (May 7, 2014) as presented. VOTE: 11 FOR - 0 AGAINST - 0 ABSTAIN THE MOTION CARRIES 4. Review of YTD Marketing Budget Rochefort Joël Rochefort reviewed the marketing budget items and year to date expenses. Joël noted that the expenses were on track for meeting the committees set budget for the year. Paul Phillips noted that the budget sent in the meeting package had since been updated to reflect the $9,950 carried over from the previous year s budget for the RAIC E- Learning course development. 5. CPCI Committee Liaison Report LeVatte Andrew LeVatte reported on the activities and initiatives of the Technical and Sustainability committees. Andrew reported that the Technical committee is requesting help from the marketing committee to replace photos in the new infrastructure guide and the 5 th edition design manual. Action item: Joël Rochefort was tasked with sending the committee members a list of photos needed for both projects by . 2

6. CPCI Strategic Plan Marketing Hall/Rochefort - Overview and approval of priorities Joël Rochefort reported that the committee met twice since the summer meeting to discuss the marketing priorities in the CPCI strategic plan. Marketing related items were prioritised as must do, should do and nice to do. Must do items were then prioritised from 1 to 5. Committee members were in agreement with the strategic plan priorities as presented in the material. 7. CPCI Major Accounts Partnership Program (CMAP) Hall - Progress Report since the CPCI Summer Meeting 2014 Brian Hall reported good progress with the targeted major accounts. The Canada Post precast concrete slab project for their mailboxes is a good example that shows how the programs works and the benefits of having CPCI involved at the early stages. It was reported that Canada Post had specified that precasters had to be CPCI certified to bid on the project. Brian informed the group that he was in contact Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada on a proposed precast concrete Native housing project. Brian Hall also informed the committee that he had met with Sobeys, Infrastructure Ontario, Correction Services Canada, Simons retail stores, Groupe Germain Hospitalité and more. Overall, the program is reported to be very well received and gaining momentum. Robert Bouchard (BPDL) requested help from CPCI on behalf of the Quebec Chapter with the MTQ. Robert Bouchard informed the group that steel was becoming more and more popular for MTQ bridge projects and that the MTQ are not willing to communicate with individual companies. Action item: CPCI staff was tasked with meeting with MTQ to discuss the use of precast concrete for provincial infrastructure projects. 8. Education Rochefort - Architecture Canada Sustainability E- Learning Course Joël Rochefort reported that the sustainability themed E- Learning course was actively being developed with the Canadian Ready- Mixed Concrete Association and CPCI. Joël reported that the production of the module had been delayed due to the redevelopment and the formatting of the content. 3

- Building Envelope Educational Seminars Joël Rochefort reported that the Alberta chapter are actively planning seminars in Edmonton and Calgary on October 22 and 23 respectively and that the Ontario chapter will be holding a building enclosure seminar in early Infrastructure for Life Seminar Joël reported that the British Columbia, Manitoba/Saskatchewan and Maritime chapters are interested in having an Infrastructure for Life seminar but no date has been determined for the events. - National Precast Day Joël Rochefort informed the group that CPCI created a website portal devoted to National Precast Day (NPD). This portal includes information on NPD in general and it offers visitors the chance to register directly online for a plant tour. Joël urged all participating plants to send in their dates for NPD so that they are added to the portal Pathway to our Future Hall/Rochefort Making Precast Concrete s Sustainable Attributes Work for Your Firm Joël Rochefort and Brian Hall reported that the 2014 Pathway to our Future will focus on how to market and communicate our CPCI Sustainable Initiatives to the market place. The Pathway to our Future session will be postponed to 2015 as the development of the precast concrete EPDs will take longer than expected and are an important part of the Pathway. It was reported that PCI had shown interest in offering this session to their members. CPCI will work with PCI and explore this opportunity. Brian reported that the CPCI Sustainability Committee requested powerpoint presentations to be made and sent to all members on sustainability due to the delay of the pathway to our future. CPCI created and sent 3 presentations to all CPCI members on the topic of sustainability. Paul Kochan suggested that CPCI look at doing a pathway to our future on another subject than sustainability and recommended project management as a topic. Members discussed the possibility of having project management sessions during the sustainability pathways but it was decided that the two should be kept separate so to not loose the focus on each important subject. The marketing committee will review different topic ideas at the CPCI summer meeting (September in Windsor, ON). Action item: CPCI staff was tasked with sending the pathway to the future topics from the last 10 years to the marketing committee. 4

10. CPCI Precast Concrete Course/Student Design Competition Rochefort Joël Rochefort updated the committee on the CPCI precast concrete course for colleges and universities. Joël informed the committee that the Cegep de Trois- Rivières had taken on the full course for their fall semester. Joël Rochefort and the Quebec Chapter members will meet with the Cegep professors at the end of the semester to get feedback on the course. Once the course is updated and tweaked, it will be translated and sent to all chapters for implementation in their region. The marketing committee members expressed their gratitude to the Quebec chapter for developing this extensive course on precast concrete and look forward to seeing the final product. 11. Updated CPCI Web Portals Rochefort Joël Rochefort presented the new design of the CPCI certification and sustainability portals. Joël informed the group that the design was to be similar to the new cpci.ca website in order to insure continuity in the look and feel. The new portals will be live in early November New Market and Communications Surveys to CPCI Members Hall Brian Hall reviewed the general content of the survey and informed the committee of its importance. Brian informed the committee that the survey would be administered by a third party firm who would compile the anonymous market information in a report for CPCI to analyze. Kenneth Kruse reported to the group that he is currently spearheading the PCI market survey and that it is yielding great analytical results. Kenneth informed the committee that the survey is not company specific and that it allows to see trends therefore giving useful data to the members. The marketing committee members all agreed that this survey would be important and that CPCI should move forward with it. Brian Hall presented to the committee a communications survey that could help CPCI better communicate with its clients and members. All members agreed that this would be useful information and that CPCI should move forward with the communications survey at the appropriate time. 13. Energy Data Modeling Hall/Zakariasen Brian Hall informed the committee that some preliminary research had been made to determine if energy data modeling was the best tool to use to promote precast concrete over insulated metal panels though all members agreed that energy data modeling would be a good tool for precast manufacturers to have. Brian suggested that we open up the scope to include schools, residential 5

buildings, offices buildings, big box stores and more. Robert Burak informed the committee that he doesn t believe energy modeling is the right approach for big box stores. Robert did mention that he believe energy data modeling is definitely the right approach for schools and institutional buildings. There was much discussion on how to approach this research and the committee decided on the following action items: Action item: CPCI staff was tasked with working with its members on obtaining the operating cost of the ETS Residence (BPDL project) and a similar residence constructed out of another building material as well as Eagle Ridge Apartments (Lafarge project) and a similar construction in the area. Action item: Brian Hall was tasked with contacting big box stores to know what aspect of a building is most important to them. Action item: CPCI staff was tasked with setting up a conference call to discuss a strategy on how to promote precast concrete over insulated metal panels for big box stores. Post- Meeting Note: It was decided during the marketing meeting that the committee would meet by teleconference on October 16 at 1:00PM EST to discuss a strategy for big box stores. CPCI has not been able to get the necessary information needed for a discussion during this call and will therefore need to postpone the teleconference to a later date to be determined. 14. CPCI Policy on Awards Rochefort Joël Rochefort presented the new CPCI policy on awards. The new policy outlines the maximum number of awards that can be bestowed per year as well as the process to follow for adding new awards. Note: Please see Appendix 14 attached with the meeting minutes for the complete award policy. 15. New CPCI Certification Marketing and Reporting Program Hall Brian Hall presented the marketing plan for CPCI certification and outlined the events, advertisements and other ways CPCI plan on promoting its certification. Brian also presented the new certification reporting program which members were encouraged to use when noticing that CPCI certification is not specified for a project. 16. Imagineering Magazine Rochefort Joel presented the editorial planner for the 2014 Fall/Winter edition of the Imagineering Magazine to the committee, which featured projects from across Canada. Joël reported that advertising 6

sales are still low. Joël also presented the Professional Services Directory pages, which is a new section in the magazine created to offer advertising to CPCI members at a low cost. Note: Please see Appendix 16 for the Imagineering Magazine Professional Services Directory media kit. 17. Chapter Implementation of Marketing Programs All Committee members from each chapter presented the market situation in their region and reviewed their chapter activities for the remainder of Other Items Andrew LeVatte presented a new Thermal Mass R- Value Calculator tool developed by the National Precast Concrete Association of Australia (NPCAA). The committee showed great interest in the tool and are interested in having a Canadian version of the tool. Action item: Andrew LeVatte was tasked with contacting the NPCAA to get more information on the tool and permission to use and adapt it for the Canadian market. 18. Next Meeting: Budget Teleconference January 8 th, 2014 All 19. Adjournment Paul Phillips thanked everyone for their participation and CPCI staff for their work.
