2 Luran S ( and /PC) Luran S is the tradename for the BASF range of styrene/acrylonitrile copolymers (SA) impact-modified with an acrylic ester. The range includes grades for injection molding and extrusion. Luran S is made by the copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile in combination with an acrylic ester elastomer. The elastomer is in the form of very finely divided particles uniformly distributed in the SA framework. Luran S grades with the letter C in their name (eg, Luran S KR 2866 C) are blends of and polycarbonate. omenclature See page 8 2

See key below: 1st digit Code for Luran S in BASF's range of styrene polymers 2nd digit Relative measure of the impact resistance. High number = high toughness Low number = lower toughness but greater stiffness and hardness. 3rd digit easure of resistance to heat distortion, classified according to the Vicat softening temperature... 6 means VST/B 94 C.. 7 means VST/B C.. 8 means VST/B 105 C 1st letter Indication of flowability A = highest flowability Z = lowest flowability Development products are indicated by the letters "KR" followed by a 4-digit number. Other letters Codes for special formulations C = Polymer blend of and polycarbonate E = suitable for extrusion UV = UV stabilized Example Luran S 776 SE 7 = acrylate-styreneacrylonitrile polymer 7 = high impact resistance 6 = good heat distortion resistance S = medium flowability E = extrusion grade Colors Luran S grades are available coloured or in their natural color, which is an opaque yellowish white. Luran S grades can be supplied in almost any desired shade. Colored products are coded are follows: Luran S grade, color name, color number Example: Luran S 776 S White Sometimes the colour number is followed by a letter: P = Additional pigment cost. The use of a higher-cost special pigment makes it necessary to charge extra for this product. T = Temperature sensitive.the shade can alter at high processing temperatures. Physical form and storage Luran S is supplied in the form of cylindrical pellets with a length and diameter of about 2.5 mm. The apparent density is approx g/cm 3 and the repose angle around 35. Standard packaging: 25-kg polyethylene sacks. The material is also available in 0-kg octabins or bulk delivery (silos) on request. If Luran S is stored in a dry place at moderate temperatures, its properties will not undergo any change.
