49 MATERIALS & MAINTENANCE HARBOUR OUTDOOR STAINLESS STEEL Stainless steel is commonly known as rust-free steel (RFS) or Inox. This is a ferrous alloy that increases the corrosion resistance of a substance by the addition of chrome and nickel. The principle is based on protecting the surface area by means of chrome-oxide and nickel-oxide molecules. These molecules are much larger than the underlying iron molecules, which prevents the latter from binding with oxygen and forming iron oxides better known as rust. STAINLESS STEEL MAINTENANCE Since stainless steel is not totally impervious to corrosion, it is recommended that the item be cleaned regularly with water and mild soap to prevent any stubborn stains building up. This will minimize the contamination of the surface areas, as well as the risk of contamination of the surface with iron particles, also referred to as T STAINING. When cleaning follow the direction of the polish for best results. FERRARI BATYLINE French made by Ferrari, extremely durable and long wearing material consisting of a polyester fibre covered by a coating of PVC, making it nearly impossible to tear. Its resilient properties make it an ideal material to be near swimming pools or salt water. Sagging is minimal as it has a maximum stretch of 3%. It also has a memory it will slowly regain its original shape after it has been used, especially when placed out in the sun, won t rot 100% synthetic and resistant to rot and mildew. Easy to clean- simply wash mesh with a mild natural soap (liquid dish detergent), using a soft bristle brush. Rinse and dry with a cloth, to avoid water stains from settling on the stainless steel frames. UV treated highly resistant to UV radiation and fading. 50 MATERIALS & MAINTENANCE HARBOUR OUTDOOR TEAK Teak is a dense, close grained hardwood with high natural oil content. These natural features make teak extremely resistant to the harsh elements and the ideal timber for outdoor furniture. So durable in fact that teak furniture requires little, if any, maintenance and can be left outdoors year-round to weather naturally. While the rate of weathering varies depending on climate, moisture and exposure to sun (the weathering process will occur faster in moist climates and slower in dry climates). UNIQUE COLOURINGS A natural colour change will occur with all timbers due to aging and weathering. If left to age naturally and with minimal care, the rosewood surface will gradually change to a soft silver-grey colour creating an individual style and finish. If left unattended and continually exposed outdoors, the surface will turn to a weathered and more distinguished grey colour. EASY CARE Teak is treated with a protection solution - a unique formulation of natural oils with UV filters, binders and mildew retardants. The treatment bonds and penetrates the fibres of the timber to form a tough protective barrier that resists water penetration, thus reducing cracking and UV degradation. Tests have shown outstanding protection over 18 months. Light sanding and a reapplication restore previously protected timber to its original condition. REHAU RAUCORD Raucord is a premium synthetic weaving material suitable for all kinds of applications including outdoor and indoor furniture as well as garden and home accessories. The material is manufactured using renowned German engineering know-how and production technology. REHAU has been active in polymer processing since 1948 and is one of the pioneers in designing and supplying all-weather rattan with more than seven years of experience in this field. EASY CARE To best maintain your Sunbrella fabrics, simply brush off loose dirt, hose down, prepare a cleaning mixture of water and mild, natural soap (no detergents). Use a soft bristle brush to clean, allow soap to soak in, rinse thoroughly and air dry. 51
