3 CIHEAM s Mediterranean focus The International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, CIHEAM, was founded at the joint initiative of the OECD and the Council of Europe on 21 May 1962 and now has thirteen member countries: Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey. CIHEAM s establishment agreement : CIHEAM s mission is to «provide complementary education and develop a spirit of international cooperation among private/public sector executive, academicsresearchers and officials.». Four Mediterranean Agronomic Institutes, MAIs: Bari (Italy), Chania (Greece), Montpellier (France), Zaragoza (Spain) One network of national partner institutions: In the fields of education and research, CIHEAM has fifty partner institutions in the Mediterranean countries and fifty more across the world.

5 CIHEAM Education Postgraduate Education is CIHEAM s foremost mission CIHEAM is fully committed to the Bologna process which now sets the standard for harmonising the European higher education system. Two types of education Degree leading education programme First year : post graduate diploma in specialised studies. Second year : research project, Master of Science degree. Specialised training courses Short advanced courses for private/public sector employees, academicsresearchers or officials. Partnerships Both degree leading and specialised courses may be delivered and designed in partnership with member country institutions.

8 IAMZ Training and Cooperation at IAMZ Training is based on highly recognized guest experts. IAMZ does not have regular faculty. Every year IAMZ invites more than 400 lecturers from more than 50 countries. MSc programs have an official equivalence by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Yet we have looked for strong synergies with Spanish Universities. Cooperation for Research is based on active collaboration with partner institutions on Campus and elsewhere throughout the world. IAMZ does not have active R+D staff. Our MSc students work on research carried out on partner institutions. We animate and coordinate R+D+i actions mainly through networks and projects. Our main role is in training and dissemination.
