5 I liked the course because you try a little bit of everything from CAD to fabrication, machining to welding RYAN Mechanical Trades Graduate Ryan enjoys making components at GNS that are used in scientific experiments. GNS Science is New Zealand s leading provider of earth, geoscience and isotope research. They came to WelTec looking for a new apprentice and employed Ryan. Since finishing his mechanical engineering pre-trade course, Ryan has been completing projects in the GNS Science workshop. He works on all aspects: design, prototyping, CNC machining, maintenance, installation and welding. We ve produced machines for lumber mills that use x-rays to scan timber density, says Ryan. We ve also manufactured ion source beamlines that we ve sold to other researchers.
