1 Director Healthcare Biotech EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries, promotes an innovative and dynamic European biotechnology industry. EuropaBio and its members are committed to the socially responsible use of biotechnology to improve quality of life, to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure diseases, to improve the quality and quantity of food and feedstuffs and to move towards a bio-based and zero-waste economy. Our members are involved in research, development, testing, manufacturing and commercialisation of biotechnology products and processes and have a wide range of activities: human and animal health care, diagnostics, bio-informatics, chemicals, crop protection, agriculture, food and environmental products and services. EuropaBio represents 73 corporate and associate members and bioregions, and 15 national biotechnology associations in turn representing over 1800 biotech SMEs. More details about EuropaBio: Today, the Healthcare Biotechnology unit of EuropaBio is looking for an exceptional and motivated individual to join as Director. Healthcare biotechnology has a tremendous impact on meeting the needs of patients and their families. Biotechnology in healthcare not only encompasses medicines and diagnostics manufactured using a biotechnological process, but also cell and tissue-engineered products, gene therapy and includes the use and the application of key biotechnology tools in the research and development of all innovative medicines. Today, more than 325 million patients have benefited from approved medicines manufactured through biotechnology. Biotech medicines are estimated to account for approximately 20% of all marketed medicines and represent 50% of all medicines in the pipeline.

2 Your role in the Association As leader of the Healthcare Biotech team, you will take the lead role in setting, driving and achieving EuropaBio s goals on dedicated priorities amongst a broad range of Healthcare biotechnology issues, including European innovation, regulatory and market access policies, interpretation and advice on EU law, smooth functioning of the internal market and environmental affairs. You will also help identify, support and lead as appropriate, cross-sectoral initiatives and activities relevant to EuropaBio s organisational goals and of interest to the broader biotech industry. Actively engage and involve members. Through the Healthcare Council set goals to help achieve members strategic objectives and monitor progress toward them. Ensure the smooth running of meetings and events aimed at improved member experience and satisfaction. In collaboration with the EuropaBio team, maintain and develop partnerships with stakeholders and EU, third country and international institutions, follow European research, innovation, market access and other policy activities closely and interact with the appropriate European and external institutions. Present and represent EuropaBio members interests and initiatives at the level of the EU institutions and, as appropriate to the overall goals of EuropaBio, at an international level. Key area of responsibilities Strategies & tactics Together with members, develop and execute a longer term Healthcare Council strategy and build a plan to execution which will focus of the importance of biotechnology to healthcare, value of biotech innovation and importance of intellectual property protection for that innovation Together with the Board and the EuropaBio team, develop and implement strategies to collect the broader member s interests and advice on successful political and legal approaches to promote a balanced, innovationfriendly, business and market access environment for biotechnology innovations and solutions. Work together with National Associations to ensure alignment on key healthcare topics in the EU market Drive external engagement with key stakeholders

3 Business & Technical expertise Gather and promote business development, research, innovation and market access policy initiatives in line with members needs, with a particular focus on small and medium enterprises. Ensure that the Healthcare sector s activities are in line with the association s policies, procedures and practices. Provide authoritative legal and political advice to team and members on business development/legal/regulatory matters and on the potential legal and practical impact of legislation on the members Suggest opportunities for new work items, advocacy and communication Attract new members and keep them involved Representation Represent EuropaBio and EuropaBio s positions to external stakeholders including the EU, third country and international institutions; present and represent EuropaBio at EU and international meetings Foster and maintain key contacts with key stakeholders, in particular within the EU institutions Alert EuropaBio hierarchy and members to issues ahead of time Members & Board Work closely with the Chair and Vice-Chairs of the member s Healthcare Council to develop and drive the strategic agenda Effectively communicate and drive engagement with the Board and Members through meetings, events and internal communications Project management Lead internal and external project groups as appropriate to meet the objectives including coordination of the debate, building consensus and advise on possible successful political and legal strategies Develop position papers, presentations and other communication material to support projects and programmes Provide direction and support into Board, Council and related working groups and task forces Communication Inform members through EuropaBio s member communication mechanisms Update the EuropaBio website with information relevant to Healthcare activities (Council, working groups/task forces) Respond to members and non-members requests

4 communicate information on meetings, projects and programmes to EuropaBio members and externally to identified stakeholders Effective use of social media Promote new topics and innovative approaches/solutions Experience and education Third level qualification preferably in the legal, political, medical or science disciplines 5 to 10 years of experience, at least 3 to 5 of which in healthcare: health administration, government or industry High level of business/legal/regulatory/policy knowledge related to healthcare Experience in managing or leading teams or projects Experience of, or within, the EU institutions Good medical, legal, or bio-engineering knowledge Fluent in English, Other EU language(s) highly appreciated Key Personal Skills Familiarity and ability to navigate the Brussels environment and possess, or demonstrate ability to create, own network Able to drive the strategic agenda, proactive, able and willing to take initiatives Carry a presence and respect amongst peers, external groups and international bodies Excellent negotiation skills Effective communication skills both in writing and in speaking, with internal & external stakeholders Project management skills Flexible and a good team player Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Learn more about EuropaBio on We have a small but dynamic multinational communications team working on important channels and activities promoting the European biotechnology industry. We are looking for extra support from a reliable and motivated student, ideally studying communications or EU affairs, who is looking for a work placement as part of her/his university studies (i.e. not convention immersion professionnelle ). The candidate must be a student and the intern agreement or Convention de stage will be signed between your University and Europabio as part of your study. The ideal start date would be February You would be working in the EuropaBio offices close to Montgomery Square in Brussels. This internship would provide you with valuable insights, contacts and experience in EU communications, social media, digital media tools, science communications or biotechnology. Learn more about EuropaBio on Today, the Healthcare Biotechnology Team of EuropaBio is looking for a motivated intern for a period of 6 months. You would be working closely with industry experts within a small and dynamic multinational team, based in the EuropaBio office, in Brussels. This internship would provide valuable insights, contacts and experience for candidates interested in policy development, advocacy and implementation in a fast-growing sector, involving the EU institutions and various relevant stakeholders. This internship will allow direct involvement in priority work areas for EuropaBio Healthcare (e.g. Advanced Therapies, Orphan Medicines, R&D policies, Personalised Medicine, Biosimilars, and patients access to innovative treatments), under the supervision of the other team members. Tasks/Projects During the six months period, the intern will be asked to assist with a range of tasks. These may include requests to:

9 Assist in updating, researching and drafting Healthcare Biotechnology policy documents and position papers; Help with the preparation of internal and external communications materials and correspondence for the team; Monitor press, help to review and summarise news on the Healthcare Biotechnology industries and assist with the preparation of the Association s internal and external newsletters; Help with monitoring and mapping developments and activities in and around the European Council, Parliament and Commission on a wide variety of topics; Attend and report on external events; Assist with essential support tasks for the Healthcare Biotechnology team, including for the organisation of events, the management of working group meetings, and drafting of minutes. Candidate Profile Must be an EU citizen (with the necessary permits to work throughout the EU); Graduated in EU affairs and/or public health, political sciences, law or other area relevant to Healthcare Biotechnology; Must have an interest in the Healthcare Biotechnology sector; Must have a very high standard of both written and spoken English (office language); fluency in other EU languages will be considered an asset; Must have strong drafting skills and attention to detail; Should be a good team player but also capable of working independently; Must be able to present work in a clear and concise manner; Must have computer skills such as Word, PowerPoint, WebEx; Should possess a good understanding of the European decision-making process; Good interpersonal skills and personal presentation; The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;

10 The ability to produce work of a high standard, to use initiative and to regularly report on progress.
